Oklahoma State Opts to Beat the Heat this Week for Start of Fall Camp
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State coaching staff got a preview of the week ahead on Sunday during the final two prospect minicamps as a week of opportunity opened for high school players to come on campus. Sunday’s camps started at 9:30 a.m. and then again at 1:30 p.m. I told Oklahoma State linebackers coach Joe Bob Clements that he needed to flip a coin with one of the positions inside as he was outside with the linebackers for both morning and afternoon.

It was brutal for both, but especially in the afternoon. The Oklahoma State staff met on Monday afternoon and the decision coming out of it was to change practices this week (Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday) to 7 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.
Head coach Mike Gundy would much rather wake his players up earlier and get them off the field before Mother Nature cranks up her blast furnace. The forecast all three of those days is for temps to reach 105 for a high. On the turf that temperature will climb into the 130 range or more.
The early, early practices only come into play the first three days as players will be finishing summer school. Starting on Saturday practices will begin at 9:08 and run through 11:36 a.m.
The first practice is impacted for the media as photographers and video cameras can shoot the first 15 minutes of practice after stretch. Also, head coach Mike Gundy and several players (Jaden Nixon, Jake Springfield, Kendall Daniels, and Kody Walterscheid) will be available for interviews after practice.
