Bryan Nardo Influence Strong: Defense is Good, Instruction Even Better

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy described the scrimmage on Saturday inside Boone Pickens Stadium as balanced. Yes, the offense did some good things, but if you were grading it start to finish, play-by-play, the defense almost assuredly came away at least a letter higher than the offense. Based on turnovers, and Kale Smith did have another pick on an all-or-nothing throw by Alan Bowman in a two minute drill.

I hope he's great and stays around for a few years. Seems like a guy who will be a head coach in the next few years if his system is successful here. Certainly seems to have the personality, recruiting touch and relationship skills.
Now does his coaching transfer to the field in the Big XII.

I honestly don't expect a whole lot from the defense in the first season, I'm counting on Bowman to get us the wins.

I expect the defense to not fall behind where they were last year, and any incremental improvement will be gladly welcomed.

it's wait and see on the 3-man front for me... I think power teams are going to run all over us.

Ya and see, for whatever reasons (blind bias, articles, clips of Nardo, adding a clock change and run game) I expect our D to be improved. Probably fairly significantly.
I'm starting to think QB truly isn't a lock for Bowman. I'll now be surprised if at least two don't play. Wouldn't be Gundy's 1st time to use quarterbacks by situation. And he loves a qb who can run, so Gunnar's his best running qb. Remember how Mason Rudolph would get yanked in the red zone for Walsh?

You ALWAYS want your defense to come out ahead of your offense in preseason or else it portends major problems!!! This bunch has a fairly good amount of experience and that helps a lot!!!

Good stuff, I am looking forward to see the numbers that the defense puts up this year. It will be interesting to see that same comparison with the defensive numbers from last year in the future as the season progresses. Coach Nardo has that way of connecting with players that builds strong relationships which transcends on the field.

I have never seen such a coordinated effort to promote and propagandize a coach. The Head Coach, the
administration and the media have crowned Nardo King or at least a Knight before even one snap has been taken. Maybe it makes a little sense to wait and what happens.

I just consider it pre-season hopeful conversation. Kind of like all the hype about Texas that hasn't proven it can win big in many years. Reality will still apply start September. The wolves come out quickly if things go south!
