Jaylen Warren has the Highlight of the Weekend and James Washington Catches on Fast

The second week of preseason seemed to slow down some for former Oklahoma State Cowboys but Jaylen Warren had the big play and James Washington wasted no time in Indy.

STILLWATER – Why not start out with the hits as fromer Oklahoma State running back Jaylen Warren, still kind of the toast of the town in Pittsburgh, gave Steelers fans another reason to love him in the team’s 27-15 win over Buffalo. First quarter and quarterback Kenny Pickett hands Warren the ball and the compact and speedy Warren darts through a big hole on the left side and then kicks into another gear heading to the sidelines as he say adios to a pair of Bills defenders, breaks a last ditech tackle attempt down the sideline and struts into the end zone for a 62-yard touchdown and a 7-0 Pittsburgh lead. That was his only carry of the night, which tells you all you need to know about how Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin values Warren.

While Warren has it made in Pittsburgh and has firmly established himself as a top back and

perhaps, a competitor for RB No. 1 with Alabama alum Najee Harris, former Cowboys receiving great James Washington has struggled to make it at Pittsburgh, Dallas, and then was cut last week after one preseason game by New Orleans. Washington was picked up by the Indianaplois Colts on Friday and on Saturday night caught a 42-yard pass in the second half from former Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger.

Wow, that is an interesting combination, but that play had to help the confidence of those former rivals now playing together in Indianapolis. Good luck to Washington and here’s hoping that Indy is the right place for him in the NFL.

Bad news did come for former Oklahoma State cornerback Rodarius Williams in his third year in New York with the Giants, one injured and the one playing a number of snaps and special teams, the team cut him last week and he has not been picked up.

Also, rookie deep snapper Matt Hembrough is still on the Arizona Cardinals roster, but he is still listed as Injured Reserve. He was put on that list on July 25 before training camp because of a back issue. Being put on IR is a good sign that the team believes you are a future part of their franchise. If not, they might have opted to waive Hembrough with an injury settlement.

Before we go to the entire rundown so far in week two of the NFL’s three preseason game weeks, there are a couple of players in the league that transferred away from Oklahoma State for their senior seasons and are active. Jarrick Bernard-Converse, who was bought by LSU for his senior season is with the New York Jets but was put on the physically unable to peform (PUP) list earlier in August. It’s a shame because he might have been able to get some pub through Hardknocks, which is with the Jets.

McCalister defends a pass vs. the Jets.

Tanner McCalister went with Jim Knowles and transferred to Ohio State. He started most of the season for the Buckeyes and got the opportunity to play in the CFP against Georgia. McCalister was signed free agent after going undrafted by the Cleveland Browns. I was listening to the Browns game with Philadelphia on radio and the announcers said he was having a strong camp. That game proved it as he had seven tackles, five unassisted along with a sack and a tackle-for-loss. I’d say McCalister has a good shot at making the Browns roster.

Here are the rest of the former OSU Cowboys and how they did in week two of the preseason. Just one more week of games and then the final cuts will start being made to the 53 man roster and practice squads.
