Stick with the Plan, the Original Plan as it Works Best

STILLWATER – Observations from Saturday’s 27-13 opening win over Central Arkansas. I don’t think anybody in the West End Zone was doing back flips on Sunday afternoon, but they also didn’t have to hide all the sharp instruments. First, it is always easier to make corrections after a win than a loss. I promise the football offices in Fort Worth, Waco, and Lubbock were a lot more somber and less encouraging than in Stillwater.

Well I for one thought the OL was horrible and players are playing out of position because we cannot recruit the position.

I unfortunately know what I am talking about.

Go back and look how many time out OT's was late on kick slides and leaning on defenders. Look how many times they didn't punch.

Go back and look how many times OLineman would
Miss blocks and turn around (specifically the hurdle play) and watch the hand off.

Horrible coaching IMO. There is no "attitude" and technique is missing!
I personally would love to see a Kyle Eaton, Ben Buie, Sam Mayes, CC (you), and Doug Koenig, and Caleb Noble performance out of these guys this week! You guys were some tough mother f*****s for sure!!! Ben was one of my favorites, he looked like a bowling ball but could knock your head off!!!

Thanks for your input CC. No "attitude" is right. Birmingham looked so slow out there, no way he can contain even half way speedy edge rushers with the slow feet that he displayed. Brooks also looked too slow to pull, that's probably why he whiffed. What did you think about the blocking from #16 TE Josiah Johnson? Looked like to me he got abused by the defensive ends and was pretty much no help at all. Dalton Cooper looked lethargic to me, but I'll also say that his holding call that caused Ollie's 42 yard run to come back looked pretty weak, like something you can call every play.

That's fine, we all have opinions. I have watched the game 3 times now. All you have to do is the same and know what you're looking for..

LOL.... watch it again.

We all know the Line had issues in game 1.

Wilson was out and Miterko replaced him - Miterko had issues last year.

Springfield got hurt and we had to bring in a new kid that had never played here before, and we moved him to RT on top of that.

Birmingham hadn't played in over a year, and it looked like it. Plus, he looked badly over weight. He was supposed to be on a play count to work his way back in before Springfield got hurt.

You're not saying anything that is not obvious. Anybody can (and should) pick apart the game, but that does nothing to help the team unless you are also working with them and pointing out what needs to improve.

You're approach is simply to bash the team and come off as a "I'm better than the coach", sideline poster. "The sky is falling, the sky is falling"

What's your solution? Put in younger guys that you know even less about?

Gundy continues to say we get out coached.

I start there. Definitely new OL coach and possible new TE coach.

Can't put the younger guys in there if the same technique and lack of coaching is put on them.

We need to recruit better.

No real solution at this point until coaching changes are made.

I don't think I saw him make that statement in his presser.... did I miss it?

don't you think that it's more than just a little peculiar that Dickey only forgot how to coach once he came to OSU? His KState lines were epic. We've had some pretty good lines here under Dickey too.

recruit better? I'm not sure how you do that... the last 3 OLine coaches couldn't do better. (Connelly, Adkins and Henson)

Dickey's players have earned at least one All-Big 12 honor every season since his arrival, including Marcus Keyes in 2019, Teven Jenkins and Josh Sills in 2020, Sills again in 2021 and Hunter Woodard in 2022. All but one of those were first team honors. In the five years before Dickey, OSU earned just three total first team all-conference spots on the offensive line.

I think your solution is foolhardy

I mean it's possible, but from what I've heard, players don't respond to him well, other coaches wanted him gone, and I've heard from multiple sources that he is lazy in recruiting.

I sure could be wrong and I can admit that, but I'm just giving my opinion.

He doesn't tweet enough? What does that even mean?

Here's another opinion for you....

... Scott Peters, who played seven years in the NFL, and teaches offensive line technique through an organization called Tip of the Spear.

"Scott Peters had met Coach Dickey at clinics a few times, and he's only said great things about him. He has a lot of opinions about a lot of coaches, but Coach Dickey is one of the guys he had nothing bad to say about."

Dickey's accolades are long....

You all see so much negativity and hate behind facts. I only see it for what it is. Good or bad no motive or alternative reason. When something is bad I can see that and accept it. You guys spend to much time making it personal.
No one is saying the OL played well, but not everyone then has to attack the coaches and players. Setting yourselves up as experts when you're not, and demanding heads roll every time there is a game that doesn't go exactly how you imagine it might is not facts, its all just hate, and it's not useful or desirable.

You're relatively new, but some of the guys over there have been screaming the same fire'em all I could do better for decades. And, they're still as wrong as they were in the 90's.

The fact that the non-OSU fan that runs that site encourages and plays to that makes it pretty hard to take it seriously.

You're just assuming those things. Some of y'all don't like opinions positive or negative. You automatically assume the worst when you read an opinion you don't like or agree with. The word attack gets used a lot here. If a guy says man the coaching wasn't very good is that an attack? Is a fan acting like an expert when he gives his opinion or is he just giving his opinion? It's all how you perceive it man. It's all in yalls heads. Taking it to personal will do that.

It's not really an assumption when you're saying fire them all and get rid of the kids. None of them can coach, and you've been saying that about Gundy since he was the OC.

all of those PPF stats prove only one thing... that PPF isn't very accurate, and does not take into account may relevant facts. They do not reflect if a player was playing injured. They do not reflect the caliber of the opponent they were facing.

There are many, many short comings of the PPF statistics, especially on a single game basis.

It's something, but it's not proof of anything, nor is it particularly useful.

Look at those QB ratings for example, we all know that Rangel played when the opponent was fresh and the pressure was heavier. We all know that Gunnar played when the defense was tiring and the Coach changed the game plan. We all know that Bowman had several perfect passes that were dropped.

the PPF ratings to not reflect any of that information, and that information is actually THE WHOLE STORY of the QB performances.

Can we just wait until there are 3-4 games of reps and then look at the cumulative PPF ratings? (even a larger sample size will not overcome the shortcomings of their rating system)

It's not a perfect system, it's not really even a good system for analyzing college ball.

FYI - when your negative comments are massively disproportionate to the positive play and accomplishments of the players and coaches over the past 10-15 years you come off as nothing but a basher instead of a true fan. Just calling it straight down the middle.

We all talk on a forum and who's right who's wrong but no one accepts facts. So go listen to an unbiased opinion for a couple big time osu guys and then see what you think.

All qbs played decent. Bowman struggled against the rush. The offense went zone running the majority of the game but had given up on it by the time bowman came in because they weren't opening holes or getting any push which Gundy alluded to himself. Hence why bowman threw it 24 times. O struggled pretty mightily especially the left side. Communication was a big problem among them and they just flat out missed a ton of blocks. Josiah Johnson at tight end was really really bad in run blocking. All rbs were decent but Ollie Gordon stood out for his pass blocking. Saved the lineman a couple times with key blocks that would have been very bad for the offense otherwise. Defense stayed base literally all game. Safeties struggle some as well as the lbs. Defense overall was pretty decent.
