Oklahoma State Lands Commitment From Kansas Defensive End Landon Dean

The Cowboys have landed another commitment in the class of 2022, their second of the day. This one is also on the defensive side of the ball.

Landon Dean, a 6’4 230 pound, defensive end out of Frontenac, Kansas, went to Twitter on Wednesday night to announce his commitment to Oklahoma State.

Dean holds four offers as of now, three of which are in the Big 12, being Kansas State and Iowa State. The fourth offer was Eastern Michigan. He has also been contacted by Nebraska, Iowa, Northwestern, Notre Dame, and Virginia among others.

Dean has not seen his recruitment take off like it was expected to but that can mainly be attributed to lack of exposure, living in a small Kansas town, which only has 270 kids in the highschool, which is in Kansas Class 3A. Oklahoma State found him and offered back in May 2020 and have been after him ever since. Dean has been the No. 1 defensive end on their board for a while.

Landon Dean Junior Season Highlights

Last season (junior) he had 76 total tackles, 38 unassisted, 7.5 tackles for loss, a sack, a fumble recovery, and a fumble caused. Dean is a reminder not to be scared of recruiting athletes in smaller classifications because the potential can often passes the performance of prospects in larger classes.

Only labeling Dean as a defensive end is a slight to his athletic ability. Yes, he will be playing defensive end in college but on film, this guy is a versatile workhorse.

At defensive end, he is an absolute disruptor. His first step and his first punch are extremely quick and violent, knocking back offensive lineman instantaneously. His pursuit skills come very easily as he opens up his own lanes to track down ball carriers. There are often times where he gets into the backfield so quickly he is able to tackle both the quarterback and running back.

Not only is he a phenom on defense but he also excels on the offensive side of the ball for Frontenac. He is a smooth route runner and has shown time and time again that he has fantastic hands.

Dean is the 5th public commitment this 2022 class, 6th overall. He is the third defensive commitment in this class, also being the second of the day.

I think most sites will still list him as a three star but his talent level and production will be in line with a 4 star. Being in such a small school in Kansas doesn't do many favors for prospects
