Dave Smith Names National Coach of the Year by His Peers at USTFCCCA
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Dave Smith was named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year following the program's fifth NCAA cross country title, the organization announced Monday.
The Cowboys dominated the field at every postseason race they competed in, culminating in Smith's fourth NCAA title as head coach. OSU scored 25, 19 and 49 points on the path to winning the Big 12, Midwest Regional and NCAA championships, respectively. The Cowboys' 49-point performance at the national meet was the third lowest by any team since 2000, with all five OSU scorers placing in the top-15.
This is the fourth time Smith has been named Men's National Coach of the Year, with each of the other three coinciding with his three NCAA championship squads in 2009, 2010 and 2012. He was also named USTFCCCA Midwest Region Men's and Women's Coach of the Year.
