Oklahoma State Picks Up Local Bonus in Preferred Walk-On Commit Talon Kendrick

STILLWATER – I’ve known Talon Kendrick since he was first playing little league baseball and football. He has always loved sports and excelled at them. He has been a solid contributor to the Pioneers on the gridiron and the diamond over the past three school years. On Friday (Dec. 1) the kid that can and has played quarterback, running back, receiver, safety, and linebacker will join his football teammates at Stillwater and try to earn back-to-back Class 6A-II State Championships when they play Muskogee in Paycom Stadium on the campus of UCO in Edmond. As of this week we know that Kendrick will not go far to play college football as he accepted a preferred walk-on offer from Oklahoma State University. Kendrick is part of a group of kids starting with the 2023 recruiting class that has known nobody other than Mike Gundy as head coach for football at OSU.

Pokes Report
Last year’s State Championship win over Choctaw, left Gage Gundy, center Robert Allen, right Talon Kendrick.

That feeling of consistency and security of Gundy being the only coach that these prospects know at the school they have followed their entire life is important. Kendrick knows Gundy well having played on the same team for several seasons in football and baseball with Gundy’s youngest son Gage.

Some 29 receptions Talon made as a junior at Stillwater were thrown by Gage Gundy. Kendrick is a tough kid that this season has done everything from “wildcat” quarterback to receiver, tight end or fullback in a power set on offense. On defense he has been a safety with 74 tackles, 39 unassisted, and five interceptions. On offense, Talon had 10 carries for 81-yards and three touchdowns. His 48 receptions as a senior went fo 513-yards and five touchdowns.

In his career, he has 77 receptions for 1,082-yards and nine touchdowns. On defense he has 82 tackles.

Kendrick’s dad Casey is a local radio and television personality that also helps coach the freshman team at the high school. His mother is a dentist in Stillwater. Talon had several offers in Division II including heavyweight Emporia State, but decided he wants to play at the Division I level and for Oklahoma State.
