STILLWATER – Texas A&M put out the release on Sunday of their acceptance to the invitation to Tax Act Texas Bowl for a rematch of the 2019 game between the smae two teams as Oklahoma State is representing the Big 12 in the contest on Dec. 27 at 8 p.m. inside NRG Stadium. The Aggies release had this quote from interim head coach Elijah Robinson.
"I am so proud of these young men for their effort and commitment to me, our staff, Texas A&M and to each other," Robinson said in the release. "Any transition is difficult, but this Aggie team is a brotherhood. I know they will give great effort and we look forward to the TaxAct Texas Bowl and we have great respect for the Oklahoma State Cowboys."
Then just about an hour or so later the news came out that Robinson, the Aggies defensive line coach under fired and now $77-million richer former A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher, was now the new defensive coordinator at Syracuse. That came after he turned down new Aggies head coach Mike Elko’s offer to stay as defensive line coach as the highest paid postion coach in Texas A&M history.

Gundy was uncertain of who would coach the Aggies on Monday.
Still, Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy said on Monday that his program would wait a few days and let things settle before determining just who would lead A&M in the game.
“I don’t know if it will be the interim coach and I’m not familiar with him, but I’ve been told he is an excellent coach, Coach Robinson,” Gundy told Pokes Report. “I guess it could be Coach (Mike) Elko, the new head coach. I know him only by reputation. I never ran across him in recruiting, but he did an excellent job at Duke.”

Robinson is well-respected and well-liked by the Aggies players.
On Tuesday the bowl game organized a Zoom call with Elijah Robinson, just as Gundy had done one on Monday. Robinson may be heading back closer to home to coach for Fran Brown at Syracuse, but the Penn State grad and former player and former assistant for Matt Rhule at Temple said he is determined to finish the right way at Texas A&M.
“When Ross (Bjork-A&M athletic director) asked me to step in this role, I told you I would do everything possible to support this team, do right by this team and do right by this program,” Robinson said. “I’m honored to coach this team in this bowl game.”
Robinson also spoke about how he would not recruit or poach players from Texas A&M to Syracuse. He added that he was encouraging all players he recruited and others that listened to him to give the new coaches a chance. he also said he was encouraged that most players would stick with the team through the bowl game and finish it out the right way.
We do know among the players at Texas A&M that have gone into the transfer portal include quarterback Max Johnson, who is already committed to North Carolina, and defensive tackle starter Walter Nolen (6-4, 290).

Cowboys looking for revenge in Texas Bowl.
“On the defensive side of the ball, we’re all still intact,’ Robinson said. “That will be normal. On the offensive side of the ball, all of those guys have been here all year. We’re not going to run a new offense.”
Robinson stated that in the absence of offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino, who has left for Arkansas, that wide receivers coach James Coley and offensive analyst Jim Chaney will design the offensive game plan and will call plays.
It sounds a little shoved together and out of sorts, but I would not take this team lightly and the Cowboys owe the Aggies for 2019.
“The core of what we’ve done all year will remain the same.”
