NORMAN, Okla. – Oklahoma State came in and did something that will regularly insure success in Bedlam wrestling. It has over the years and did again on Sunday at the McCasland Fieldhouse on the OU campus. Get out and score first, which the Cowboys did in most of the 10 matches and it ended up leading to a 28-9 win, the No. 150 for the Cowboys in the series with the Sooners which is now 150-to-27 with 10 ties. It was also win No. 18 in a row in Bedlam wrestling for the Cowboys. The biggest win for the Pokes was at 184-pounds where No. 3 Dustin Plott made quick work with a second period technical fall over No. 32 Guiseppe Hoose 19-2.

Plott was dominant all the way through and led after the first period  10-1 courtesy of a pair oof takedowns and four near fall points. In fact, he came close to being in position for the fall. In the second period he quickly got the escape and that led to another takedown. At that point it was just a matter of time. Plott got it before the end of the second period and Oklahoma State had an insurmountable 20-3 lead in the dual.

It all started with simple but well-executed decisions as No. 21 Troy Spratley ran his record to 10-2 with a 4-1 decision over No. 32 Conrad Hendricksen.

"All of our duals have started at 125, and we've been very competitive up there this year and it's helped us,” coach Smith said. “I want to see us open it up more in the second and third period, instead of just leaning on that first takedown. Everyone has been doing their part and it's been good for us."

Reece Witcraft again filled in at 133-pounds for the ill Daton Fix and Witcradft was money as he dominated the third period. Witcraft led 3-1 with a 1:26 riding time advantage going to the final period and he scored a takedown and near fall points for an 8-1 decision.

No. 9 Tagen Jamison rode out the third period and scored a 6-3 decision over the Sooners kaden Smith. Oklahoma State led 9-0. However, at 149-pounds No. 23 Jordan Williams, who was very impressive on Friday night vs. Lehigh came out and took a quick lead on No. 22 Willie McDougald of OU. Williams led 3-1 and was down for the start of the second period. McDouglad became the agressor and in the third period got a take down to go in front 5-4 and then kept Williams from even getting in position to score to close out the decision for OU, their first of the dual.

Olejnik has his hand raised in Norman.

The Bedlam order returned to normal at 157-pounds as Teague Travis got a second period escape to go up 1-0. Then in the third got a takedown and put the Sooners John Wiley on his back for near fall points on his way to an 11-2 major decision and a 13-3 lead for the Cowboys.

After the break Izzy Olejnik continued his winning streak to 12. The No. 2-ranked transfer from Northern Illinois was dominant in his 11-2 major decision over Cael Carlson at 165-pounds.

More major decision action for the Cowboys at 174 as Brayden Thompson, who came in 0-3 dominated No. 17 Tate Picklo in a 9-0 major decision. He was up 4-0 and on top in the third as he did pretty much whatever he wanted to Picklo on the way to Oklahoma State jumping out 20-3.

"He did a nice job finding ways to win it,” Smith said. “It took some adjustment on his part and on ours. He was able to make that adjustment this weekend. I thought this was a huge weekend for him as far as his demeanor goes. He stayed focused. When he had the opportunity to score, he did. He is going after things and not worrying about the outcome, and that's how you win."

Then at 184-pounds was when Plott did his thing and pushed his match out to the tech fall.

Oklahoma got their best verdict of the day at 197-pounds as No. 2-ranked Stephen Buchanan went to 9-0 on the season with a fall over back-up Kyle Haas. That moved the score to 25-9.

It finished up where it has before with the two veteran heavyweights in the Cowboys No. 11 Konner Doucet and OU’s No. 16 Josh Heindselman going to overtime. This time Doucet won in the tiebreaker 2-1 to make the final score 28-9.

Oklahoma State (3-0) will close out the first semester duals on Dec.. 19 at Wyoming.

This was my first time watching college wrestling... awesome matches. Lots of freshman OSU competitors dominated their matches.

That first paragraph is almost unreadable.
