Jaden Nixon Set to Join Nick Session in the NCAA Transfer Portal

STILLWATER – Honestly, I felt like many others around the Oklahoma State football program that the NCAA Transfer Portal activity would likely finalize after the bowl game, but it appears the start of bowl preparation and practices for the Dec. 27 Tax Act Texas Bowl are prompting players to finalize their plans earlier. The window is only open for 30 days and while the recruiting of portal players can continue, many schools balancing the portal and high school/junior college recruiting are getting the process over now. Oklahoma State is taking visitors all this week. The latest players in the portal from Oklahoma State are running back Jaden Nixon and safety Nick Session.

Those two are added to the list that includes receiver Jaden Bray and Blaine Green, quarterback Gunnar Gundy, safety Lardarius Webb Jr., defensive end Ricky Lolohea, who left before school started. Having been at practice, Bray, Green, and Webb Jr. are no longer with the team. Gundy sought permission and he is staying with the team to finish out his Cowboy career in the bowl game. Gunnar Gundy is also graduating from OSU this December.

Nixon missed the Big 12 Championship Game with Texas and hasn’t practiced since then. He was involved in the running back competition to start the season, but then became the back-up. Nixon had a key play in the comeback win to end the regular season with BYU when he caught a fourth down pass and powered for the first down. This season he carried 50 times for 197-yards and a touchdown. He caught 12 passes for 123-yards including a 60-yard touchdown at Iowa State.

Nixon, 5-10, 180, also returned kickoffs including a touchdown return in 2022. His career average was 24.2-yards. His other career numbers include a 4.5-yards per carry average running the football and 9.3-yards per reception average as a receiver. He had seven career touchdowns as a Cowboy. He has two-years remianing of eligibility.

Out of Frisco Lone Star High School in Texas he has excellent speed and was always a positive player in the locker room and on the field. It’s a little of a mystery what happened with Nixon as he also seemed so enthusiastic with Ollie Gordon’s success. His departure leaves freshman Sesi Vailahi and graduate Elijah Collins, who is healthy again to man the running back position along with Doak Walker Award winner and All-American Ollie Gordon II.

Nick Session red-shirted in 2020, and dealt with some injuries in 2021, but had a huge highlight when he picked off a pass against Kansas and took it back 27-yards. He also had four tackles in that game. Session has also been a valuable member of special teams units.

He missed the 2022 season with a knee injury and came back this season to play in 10 games and finish with three tackles. He has two seasons of eligibility left with a COVID season.

Session is a native of Salt Lake City and East High School where he was a prep standout. He has been a very solid member of the team and hopefully will find the opportunity to play more. That is what the move is likely all about for both these players.
