MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Oklahoma State wrestling team wrapped up its busy weekend with a commanding 29-9 victory over No. 20 West Virginia at WVU Coliseum on Sunday afternoon. OSU remained undefeated at 7-0 on the year, as the Mountaineers dropped to 8-2. The Cowboys won seven of ten matches on the day en route to their 17th-straight victory over West Virginia. OSU has won five straight duals on the road, four coming against ranked opponents, to continue its perfect start to the season.
With the win, head coach John Smith now trails Harold Nichols by just nine wins at 483 for second-most in Division I wrestling history.
For the second time this weekend, Troy Spratley and Daton Fix came out firing with a pair of bonus point victories. Spratley dominated Jace Schafer to win by major decision, 12-1, while Fix picked up a 19-4 technical fall over David Rhoads in just 3:43.
Tagen Jamison then faced ninth-ranked Jordan Titus in a top-10 matchup at 141 pounds. Jamison jumped out front with a first period takedown, which was ultimately enough to take the match, 4-2. The redshirt freshman now boasts four wins over top-10 opponents this season and owns a 14-3 record overall.
Sammy Alvarez dropped a tight 4-2 decision to No. 9 Ty Watters at 149 pounds, but Teague Travis responded with a 5-2 win over Alex Hornfeck. The bout was even at 2-2 late in the third period, but Travis secured the clutch takedown with 30 seconds remaining for the victory. Travis has been a key piece of the Cowboy lineup thus far, winning in all seven duals.
Izzak Olejnik suffered his first defeat of the season at the hands of No. 9 Peyton Hall before Brayden Thompson posted the first fall of his young career against Luke Eschenheimer in 3:27.
At 184 pounds, Dustin Plott took care of No. 32 Dennis Robin with a 19-4 technical fall. The win marked Plott's 15th time earning bonus points in 18 matches this season.
Kyle Haas then fell to Austin Cooley, 5-0, at 197 pounds, but Konner Doucet sent the Cowboys home with a 2-0 win over Michael Wolfgram in the heavyweight match. Doucet improved to 12-2 on the season and has won five matches in a row.
Following five straight duals on the road, Oklahoma State finally returns home to Gallagher-Iba Arena next weekend for a dual against No. 17 Oregon State on Sunday, December 21. The dual is slated for 2 p.m. CT and will be available for streaming on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
