Fan Duel Released 2024 Big 12 Football Over/Under Win Props - Cowboys at 7.5
STILLWATER – I clearly remember last spring when one of the major sports book companies released their 2023 Big 12 football over/under win/loss prop bet totals and Oklahoma State was sitting at 6.5 and I told my friends don’t just bet a fun wager, but hammer the heck out of that. This year the Cowboys are at 7.5 and the value is just as good. Many of my friends listened last season and I had more Christmas cards than normal this past holiday season. I received a few nice gifts and also had a few meals paid for.
You see my contract with Learfield for the Oklahoma State Cowboys Radio Network work that I do clearly states that I am not allowed to wager on college athletics, not just Oklahoma State, but college athletics period. I don’t have a problem with this because the only wagering I really enjoy is on the horses.
For met these numbers are out a little early, but Fan Duel released their early college over/under win totals and once again, I would advise folks to bet the over generously on Oklahoma State. You have to remember the lines maker that did these numbers or the committee responsible for these numbers are looking at getting as close to equal action on both sides.
Kansas State and Utah are at the top and those programs from a national perspective have a lot of respect and should. Both have done well. I compare the Utah program and their coach Kyle Whittingham very favorably to Mike Gundy and Oklahoma State. Those two coaches took over at about the same time. Mike Gundy is 166-79 in his previous 19 years as Cowboys head coach. Whittingham at Utah has been there the same 19-years and is 162-79. The two teams will open Big 12 play against each other on Saturday, Sept. 21 in Stillwater.
Trendy and popular new winners in Arizona and Kansas are next at 8.5 wins. I could go with Kansas provided somebody would guarantee Jalon Daniels would be healthy and start all season, or at least most of the season for KU. Back problems are serious business. Arizona lost their head coach and kept their quarterback, but that is still a dicey proposition.
Texas Tech, a little bit of a bust last season and UCF are at 8.5 as well. Remember, the offseason promise in Lubbock that the Big 12 Championship would go through that West Texas city. It wasn’t even close to it. I could go with Gus Malzahn and UCF here before the Red Raiders.
Now, Oklahoma State, Iowa State, and TCU at 7.5. I like both the Cowbpoys and the Cyclones at this number. Coaches that are consistent and stable with returning quarterbacks and skill players. Both teams return most of their offensive line, if not all of the starters.
Oklahoma State has a strong non conference with two-time FCS National Champ in South Dakota State, but the Jackrabbits return only three starters. They alos play Arkansas of the SEC, but the Razorbacks are rebuilding and Fan Duel has their number at 5.5. Then the Cowboys play at Tulsa.
The first three conference games are difficult with Utah at home, Kansas State on the road, and West Virginia at home before the first bye on the schedule. If OSU is 5-1 or better at that first bye then the rest of the schedule is not as difficult with BYU and Baylor on the road and then homecoming with Arizona State. The next week is a road game at TCU on Nov. 9.
After the final bye on the schedule, Oklahoma State will host Texas Tech and play Colorado on the road on “Black Friday”. I believe Oklahoma State will go at least 10-2 with nine starters returning on offense and eight starters returning on a defense that needs to be better, but should be.
School | Fan Duel Over/Under Wins Prop Number |
Kansas State | 9.5 |
Utah | 9.5 |
Arizona | 8.5 |
Kansas | 8.5 |
Texas Tech | 8.5 |
UCF | 8.5 |
Iowa State | 7.5 |
Oklahoma State | 7.5 |
TCU | 7.5 |
West Virginia | 6.5 |
Baylor | 5.5 |
Cincinnati | 5.5 |
Colorado | 5.5 |
Arizona State | 4.5 |
BYU | 4.5 |
Houston | 4.5 |
I also like West Virginia at 6.5 wins. The Mountaineers return a good team that seems to be in a good place and head coach Neal Brown pulled off a career saving season in 2023.
Below that, I really don’t like any of the options except Arizona State. They have a very difficult schedule, but I believe that Kenny Dillingham is going to get the Sun Devils back.
By the way, the SEC total are out as well. Oklahoma is at 6.5. Somebody tell those OU fans that “it just means more.”
