Oklahoma State Softball Shuts Out No. 16 Florida, 3-0
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Karli Godwin hit a three-run home run and Lexi Kilfoyl threw a complete game shutout to lead the No. 6 Oklahoma State softball team to a 3-0 win over No. 16 Florida at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium Monday.
With the win, the Cowgirls improved to 7-2 on the year. Florida slipped to 8-2.
With pitching and defense outstanding on both sides, the game lasted only one hour and 45 minutes, with all the scoring coming on Godwin’s two-out, third-inning homer to left, the first of her career.
Kilfoyl (4-2) limited the Gators to three hits and struck out six. Only once did Florida get a runner as far as second base, with no runners reaching third. Gator right-hander Keagan Rothrock (3-2) took the loss despite allowing only two hits and striking out seven.
The game was not on the original schedule, but after two of OSU’s games at the Clearwater Invitational were canceled due to weather, the Cowgirls and Gators agreed to the contest.
The win marked OSU’s first shutout victory in a true road game over an opponent ranked in the NFCA top 25 since the Cowgirls beat No. 20 Baylor, 5-0, last season in Waco.
The Cowgirls return to action with a road date at Stetson at 5 p.m. CT Wednesday in DeLand, Florida.
