Oklahoma State Softball Falls To No. 19 Baylor In Pitcher’s Duel, 2-0

WACO, Texas – In a pitching-dominated game that resulted in only three hits total between the two teams, No. 4 Oklahoma State lost a 2-0 decision to No. 19 Baylor at Getterman Stadium Saturday.

The defeat snapped OSU’s 13-game win streak and moved the Cowgirls to 19-3 overall and 1-1 in the Big 12. Baylor improved to 14-4 overall and 1-1 in the league.

Neither team got a hit until OSU catcher Caroline Wang led off the fifth inning with a single. The game was decided in the sixth when Baylor’s Caroline Rowatt beat a throw home to score, followed by a sac fly from Kaci West that scored Ana Watson with an insurance run.

Cowgirl right-hander Kyra Aycock took a no-hitter into the fifth inning and Ivy Rosenberry (5-1) allowed only one hit in her 1 1/3 innings of relief, but the fielder’s choice and sac fly were all the Bears needed behind a one-hit, complete game shutout from right-hander RyLee Crandall (7-0).

The rubber match of the series is set for 1 p.m. CT tomorrow.

that hurts.... I was worried about our pitching staff, especially getting routed the first few game, but they put it together recently

our pitching must improve dramatically if we're going to make a post season run

When did our pitching staff get routed in the first few games? They've been good all season. Combined ERA of the 4 pitchers with more than 5 appearances is 1.61. Were you think baseball? Bc that staff has been poor.

The trip to clearwater was pretty rough, several of those on TV. Kilfoyl was especially struggling with a horrible relief effort against Georgia. Kutz had a really bad outing against Wisconsin, but the team pull the game out. Aycock and Kilfoyl were exceptionally bad in the LSU loss.

granted the Clearwater tournament had some really, really tough teams, but we were giving up runs in bunches for 3 straight games until we blanked Florida.

Yea the Clearwater trip was a bunch of tough teams.. When you play top 20 you're going to give up runs. They would've have gone undefeated without a fluke LSU comeback. Pitching wasn't the issue for me.

Offense is the issue right now. The approach at the plate in the last 2 weeks has been ugly from just about everyone.

The series wrapped up with us winning 2-1 with 2 come from behind victories.

Through those games we're 12th as a team in ERA at 1.52. We're 22 in team batting average at .333.

Both seem pretty respectable, but improvement would be nice. I think the stats bear out my subjective feeling that batting is where we need the most help as the bats do seem to go cold too often.
