STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State softball team completed a Big 12 series sweep with a 6-4 victory over UCF Sunday afternoon at Cowgirl Stadium. The Cowgirls improved to 24-3 overall and 5-1 in the Big 12. UCF fell to 14-11 overall and 2-4 in the league.
Karli Godwin got the Cowgirls started with a two-run home run to center field in the first inning, her sixth of the year. Tallen Edwards earned her 20th RBI of the season with a ground ball to the shortstop that brought home Scotland David in the second. A wild pitch brought home Katie Lott and moved Edwards to third who then scored on an RBI single from Claire Timm to put the Cowgirls ahead, 5-0.\
UCF stabilized and eventually brought the score to 5-4 in the sixth following a three-run home run from Sona Halajian.
An RBI double from Micaela Wark scored Rosie Davis in the bottom of the sixth to give the Cowgirls an insurance run and cap the day’s scoring.
“I’m proud of them. To answer back there is a huge deal and I think it’s a sign we’re pretty dang good,” Cowgirl head coach Kenny Gajewski said.
OSU starter Ivy Rosenberry (7-1) limited UCF to one run in four innings of work. Lexi Kilfoyl entered the game in the fifth and closed things out.
The Cowgirls play four road games next week, facing Tulsa at 5 p.m. Tuesday before heading to Provo, Utah, for a three-game series at BYU next Thursday through Saturday.
