O’Brate Stadium Firsts
Josh Holliday on firsts:
“During the game just taking in all the first moments, the first run scored, the first hit, the first home run, and the first chance for the crowd to make themselves heard. I think the kids in rightfield kind of did that. I was excited that Alix got the first home run and Cade (Cabbiness) got the first hit. Those are two kids back for their fifth year.”
1st Strikeout: Cowboys starter Justin Campbell strikes out first hitter Eldridge Figueroa of Little Rock on five pitches.
1st Batter Hit by Pitch: Oklahoma State leadoff hitter Matt Golda is hit in the head by Little Rock starting pitcher Erik McKnight in the top of the first.
1st Walk: Oklahoma State left-fielder Jake Thompson is walked in the first inning by Little Rock pitcher Erik McKnight.
1st Base Hit: Little Rock first baseman Canyon McWilliams bloops a single into short right-center field.
1st Runner Thrown out Stealing: McWilliams is thrown out by Oklahoma State catcher Max Hewitt right after his first hit.
1st Cowboys Base Hit: With gusto Cade Cabbiness hits a double into the gap in left-center.
1st Run Scored: Alix Garcia, who walked in the bottom of the second ahead of the Cabbiness double scores from third on a single past third base by Hueston Morrill, who gets the first O’Brate RBI.
1st Error: Bad day for Little Rock pitcher Erik McKnight as he handled a bunt by Matt Golda and then threw in the dirt to first base allowing a run to score.
1st Crooked Number on the O’Brate Scoreboard: Oklahoma State bottom of the second with five runs scored on five hits.
1st Double Play: Top of the third with bases loaded Little Rock’s Chris Prentiss hit a ground ball to OSU shortstop Hueston Morrill who went to Matt Golda at second who went to Alix Garcia at first for the traditional 6-4-3 double play. Little Rock did score a run on the play.
1st Home Run: The Gap Band tradition continued and played the for the first time in the new stadium when first baseman Alix Garcia plowed the ball into the right field bleachers. Little Rock right fielder Noah Dickerson did all he could scaling the chain link fence in front of the Trojans bullpen in right but the ball went over his glove about seven feet and into the bleachers. There had been some close calls prior to Garcia’s. The hitter right before him, Christian Encanarcion-Strand had hit it to the fence but the ball was caught on the track.
1st Win: Oklahoma State with the 7-2 final score.
