Oklahoma State Women's Tennis Stays No. 1 Beating Texas on the Road

AUSTIN, Texas – Oklahoma State’s top-ranked women’s tennis team remained undefeated, getting a 4-3 win over No. 7 Texas Friday in Austin, Texas. The win improves the Cowgirls to 18-0 on the season and 7-0 in conference play, matching its best start to a season in program history. It’s also OSU’s second win this season against Texas and sixth against a top-10 opponent, the most in a season in program history.

The match began with doubles, where the Cowgirls lost the point for just the fourth time this season. Texas’ Taisiya Pachkaleva and Shachf Lieberman defeated Safiya Carrington and Kristina Novak, 6-2, to begin things on court three.

No. 8 Anastasiya Komar and Ange Oby Kajuru then fell on court one, 6-4, to Malaika Rapolu and Tanya Sasnouskaya on court one to clinch the doubles point for the Longhorns.

Court two went unfinished with OSU’s Ayumi Miyamoto and Raquel Gonzalez leading Charlotte Chavatipon and Vivian Ovrootsky, 5-3.

Carrington got the first point on the board in singles.

Moving on to singles, the Cowgirls needed to win four of six matches. No. 77 Carrington got OSU on the board, defeating Pachkaleva, 6-3, 6-2, on court four.

No. 4 Kajuru followed that by winning court two, 6-2, 6-4, over No. 23 Rapolu. Novak put Oklahoma State one point from clinching, moving to 12-0 with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Shachf Lieberman on court six.

Texas would win the next two matches, first getting a point from Ovrootsky over No. 81 Miyamoto, 7-5, 6-2, on court five. Chavatipon followed that by beating No. 65 Lucia Peyre, 6-3, 6-2, on court three.

Playing into the third set with the match on the line, No. 10 Komar outlasted No. 32 Sasnouskaya, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, to give Oklahoma State its second win of the season over the Longhorns.

Oklahoma State will now get set for Bedlam on Sunday at noon in Norman looking to take full control of the Big 12 regular-season title.
