Lexi Kilfoyl Tabbed Big 12 Pitcher of the Year, Four Other Cowgirls Garner Big 12 Honors
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State’s Lexi Kilfoyl was named the best pitcher in the Big 12 on Wednesday as she earned Big 12 Pitcher of the Year, as well as first team All-Big 12.
She’s one of five Cowgirls who earned All-Big 12 honors on Wednesday as Karli Godwin (unanimous selection) and Caroline Wang also collected first team honors. Pitcher Ivy Rosenberry was tabbed second team All-Big 12 and Rosie Davis and Godwin both named to the All-Big 12 Freshman team.
Kenny Gajewski has done a great job recruiting elite pitcher during his time in Stillwater as Kilfoyl is the third Cowgirl in the past four seasons to be named the conference’s best pitcher. She finished the regular season with an ERA of 1.11, which leads the Big 12 and ranks third nationally. She also led the conference with 21 wins and six shutouts. Here 114 strikeouts ranked second in the Big 12, as did an opponent’s batting average of just .172.
She also made history as she became the program’s first pitcher to be named the Big 12 and Wilson/NFCA Pitcher of the Week three different times in one season. Kilfoyl was a unanimous first team selection.
As for the four other Cowgirls, Wang finished conference play with an impressive team-leading .395 batting averaging, 25 RBIs, 10 homers and four doubles. She’s third in the conference and 19th in the nation with 17 homers on the season, which also set the program’s single-season number of home runs by a catcher.
Godwin set a single-season freshman home run record this season with 13, which ranks fifth among all freshman across the NCAA. During conference place, she has 25 RBIs, as well as nine home runs and six doubles. She’s currently hitting .348 on the season.
Fellow freshman Davis his hitting an impressive .329 on the season, including a .514 average with runners in scoring position and .422 when there’s two outs on the board.
As for Rosenberry, this marks her first all-conference selection, having posted a 1.68 ERA up to this point in the season. She’s posted some of the best numbers of her career this season as she’s currently on pace to set career-high numbers in ERA (1.68), opponent batting average (.218), shutouts (3), strikeouts (89) and wins (13).
