It was a rough outing in the Big 12 tournament for Oklahoma State softball as the Cowgirls were eliminated by BYU with a 7-2 loss in the opening round.

With the loss, the Cowgirls enter the upcoming NCAA tournament with an overall record of 44-10.

Pitcher Ivy Rosenberry’s record fell to 13-4 with the loss as she went 3 1/3 innings, giving up five runs on four hits, three of which runs were earned, with one walk and no strikeouts. Lexi Kilfoyl came into the game in relief and went 3.2 innings and gave up two runs on three hits, with one earned run and five strikeouts.

The Cowgirls were led at the plate by Tallen Edwards, who went 2-for-3 with one double. She was left on base once.

The Cougars jumped out to a 2-0 lead through the first two innings following a single from 3B Lily Owens and a Cowgirl error.

In fact, the Cougars would score all seven of their runs through the first six innings before the Cowgirls plated two runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning. Caroline Wang recorded an RBI double, followed by an RBI single from Rosie Davis. Davis would finish the day going 1-for-3.

Both teams would finish the game with seven hits apiece, but the disparity came on the defensive side of the ball for the Cowgirls as they recorded a season-high five errors on the day. They also failed to capitalize with runners on base as four Cowgirls were stranded. The Cougars, however, left six runners on.

The Cowgirls will find out how their postseason gets started during the NCAA Selection Show, which will be televised on ESPN this coming Sunday at 6 p.m. CT.
