STILLWATER – It has been a fantastic year for Oklahoma State women’s tennis. The Cowgirls finished the season 29-1 and they were No. 2 in the final ITA Women’s Tennis Poll. A pair of injuries to No. 3 singles player Lucia Peyre (torn ACL) and Safiya Carrington (shoulder inflammation) derailed the Cowgirls in the Super Regional in a 4-2 loss to Tennessee.

In the NCAA Championships in Stillwater Ange Oby Kajura has played outstanding and finished her singles run on Wednesday afternoon with a hard fought loss to Vanderbilt’s hard serving Celia-Belle Mohr 6-7, 6-1, 7-6 (7-3).

Kajura and Anastaysia Komar are still alive in the doubles and earned All-America honors there with a 7-5, 4-6, 10-6 win over Kira Reuter and Amelia Honer of Cal-Santa Barbara.

They move on to the doubles quarterfinals on Thursday against No. 33 Anessa Lee and Celia-Belle Mohr of Vanderbilt.

It has been a tremendous season for Oklahoma State that includes an indoor national championship in Seattle at the ITA Indoor Championships.

“We finished No. 2 and we only lost the one match,” Kajura said. “I feel like we were one of the best teams.”

“Even to finish No. 2 that is hard to do,” head coach Chris Young said. “It will be hard for another team at OSU to be better than this team because they will have to win it all. There is only one team that walks away with the No. 1 ranking and the national championship and that is the only thing that stood in our way. We pretty much won everything else.”

Four of the Cowgirls that played a lot will return for next season. I also believe that some of the very talented players here for the NCAA Championships that saw the Greenwood Tennnis Center and the campus may consider moving to Stillwater and transferring to OSU.
