Oklahoma State Gets Commitment From Defensive Lineman Jordan Covington
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State came into this first weekend of official visits in June knowing they needed to add to their commitment list on the defensive side and they did that in a big way with Jordan Covington. The 6-4, 263-pound Covington is used at different places in the defensive line at McKinney. He was offered recently by Oklahoma State after defensive line coach Paul Randolph made a visit in May to McKinney High School and liked what he saw.
Last season Covington had 22 total tackles with 19 unassisted seven for losses, and six sacks. He lives behind the line-of-scrimmage. Covington had an excellent spring practice for the Lions and was seeing his star rise in recruiting.
He had 14 offers including a recent offer from TCU to go with Kansas, Missouri, Michigan State. California, Houston, North Texas, in addition to, of course Oklahoma State.
Covington made his commitment on Friday night when the prospects and their families were all at head coach Mike Gundy’s home for dinner. With no events on campus the visit weekend focused on meeting players on the Oklahoma State team and seeing the campus and spending quality time with the coaching staff.
Covington reminds me of 2024 freshman Armstrong Nnodim, who arrived early in January and earned likely playing time this season with his performance in the spring. Like Nnodim, Covington is really strong. Covington is also a teammate last season of new Oklahoma State freshman linebacker Jonathan Agumadu that also earned U.S. Army All-American honors last season at McKinney.
Covington becomes either the 11th or 12th commitment as it was close. He is the second pledge on the defensive line to go with edge rusher Kyle Keya of Wichita (Kapuan Mt. Carmel) Kansas, who pledged back in April.
