STILLWATER – Oklahoma State has its kickoff time and TV designation for the upcoming season opener against South Dakota State.

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. CT and the game will be streamed on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.

Pat Kinnison - Chief Photographer

This is now the fifth game kickoff times and TV information have been released for, with the Pokes hosting Arkansas Sept. 7 for an 11 a.m. CT kick on ABC, Tulsa Sept. 14 for an 11 a.m. CT kick on ESPN2, traveling to BYU Oct. 18 for a 9:15 p.m. CT kick on ESPN and at Colorado for the last game of the regular season on Nov. 29 at 11 a.m. CT on ABC.

The season-opener will mark the first-ever matchup between these two programs, with the Cowboys coming off a 10-win season and the Jackrabbits having won their last 29 games, the third-longest streak in FCS history. Their last loss came during the 2022 season, 7-3 at Iowa.

Any game played in August and September should be played at 6 or 7 pm.

My concern is less about the players than fans. TV dictating a 11 AM start or 1 PM start in August and September is just inviting fans to stay home.
A couple of thoughts. There are multiple reasons OSU has reduced the number of seats in the stadium. Safety, accessibility, fatter people, are some. But trying to improve the fan experience to compete with TV and people staying at home to watch their 85" TV's and having a refrigerator full of food and beverages is one issue for all schools.

The game is not "on TV", it is only available on the Internet

There is no need to schedule a 1:00 game to accommodate streaming services. TOD will not necessarily impact streaming viewership.

TV/Streaming, ok. One in the same. And why would't TOD impact viewership? If the game is "viewable" without going to the game, isn't it likely that some people would opt not to go to the game and sit in 100 degree heat for 4-5 hours?

TV and streaming are NOT the same thing. You must have both to see the game. (versus antenna, cable, satellite). If you do not subscribe to the service then you cannot view it on your TV. Not the same thing.

Unless, you're suggesting that ESPN put our game on at 1:00 (heat) trying to get our fans to stay home and add a subscription to their service. Could be. I doubt that would work, but who know with these greedy b's.

Dude, your obtuse. I don't think ESPN put the game on ESPN + to sell anything. They put our game on Plus because the game isn't attractive given who they can put on ESPN.

You got it right. The Big XII schools still have their one T3 game and SDSU is ours this year. So it wasn't picked up by a network so fell to ESPN+. OSU picked the kick off time. I asked Robert on the radio and he said he thought they felt playing at that time would be to the teams benefit due to their conditioning.

Personally I think it has something to do with we are going to be playing Arkansas at the same time, so a good chance to get players acclimated.

As for player safety and fan safety before 1984 all games were played at 1:30 pm other than those in the half dozen stadiums with lights. No one in the Big 8 had lights and playing in 100+ games for 3 or 4 weeks was expected. And there was no fewer fans in the stands, they were just more sunburned.

Git out of here, we're talking about the time of the game, not the station.

stay out if you can't follow the conversation.

I was not aware that OSU picked the game time.

Also, pre 1984 there was no ESPN, or Fox Sports, ;especially no streaming, so THE ONLY WAY to see a game like this game was to attend.

Yep, and prior to 1984 we only had about 30K tickets sold before kickoff time. Never saw one of those games with less in attendance than games later in the season. Sometimes they had more. Also no expectation of the fans to have it on TV, but you could listen on the radio.
