Former Oklahoma State Associate Head Coach Coleman Scott to Join Ohio RTC

Former Oklahoma State associate head coach Coleman Scott is once again in the wrestling coaching ranks. It was announced on Tuesday Coleman will be joining former Ohio State wrestler, Kollin Moore, as the coaches at Ohio RTC, the regional training center for the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Ohio State J Jaggers spoke on Scott joining the RTC staff in the press release put out by the organization. “I mean…how can the idea of Coleman being here not get you fired up? It was kind of wild how this came to be. It started as just a loose idea that we kind of thought was a pipe dream but over the past few months, through Coleman getting to know us and this place, along with him taking time off to determine what his next steps were going to be, we were able to work out a deal. I’ve known Coleman for 20 years as we are in same class and we were always wrestling in the same events. He’s someone I’ve always respected and felt was on the same wavelength as I/we were here at Ohio State with his approach to the sport and how to do things the right way. So having the chance to bring him to Columbus and a new dose of creativity/ideas is just super exciting.”

Scott joined the Oklahoma State staff ahead of the 2023-24 season as the associate head coach after spending eight years as the head coach at North Carolina. 

Scott was promoted to interim head coach after the season following the retirement of legendary head coach, John Smith. It was believed when Scott left the Tar Heels to join Smith’s staff that he would be the head coach-in-waiting. However, he was replaced when the athletic department announced the hiring of former Penn State national champion, David Taylor, the first week of May.

During his wrestling career in Stillwater, Scott won an individual national title at 133 pounds in 2008, while helping win back-to-back team titles in 2005 and 2006. He also won a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics and a gold at the 2016 Pan American Championships.
