Offensive and Special Teams Review vs. South Dakota State

STILLWATER – Overall, pretty good on Saturday in the opener. Ollie Gordon had 104-yards rushing and 42-yards receiving. Quarterback Alan Bowman was 25-of-34 for 267-yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. No sacks allowed, no turnovers, and only one penalty in the game and that came in the fourth quarter with Cam Smith guilty of a hold on a receiver. A fairly clean game, but plenty of mistakes that can be cleaned up to help the Cowboys improve.

I don't want to overreact too much but he looks like the makings of a pro level kicker. That 52 yarder was drilled.

I'd love a win in this game. In the 60's when I was first paying attention to OSU football and then a student at OSU, this game was huge for the Cowboys. Somewhat our OU/Texas game in fact. We were still in the rustoleum stadium and the Hogs were doing well pretty much every year in the SWC. Their big rival game in conference was Texas, a huge challenge. They also had refused to come to Stillwater for many, many years.......and used OSU as an annual, visiting win each year at Littlerock. (No Stillwater games between 1951 and 1975). Finally OSU got a 2 in Arkansas and 1 in Stillwater deal agreed upon. However, things went amiss about then with the series. OSU beat them like three? times in a row I think in Arkansas. Then we won one out of two of the 2:1 series deal in Stillwater. That was enough for the Hogs. They refused to play us again starting after 1980 (and/or OSU wouldn't agree to a non- home and home anymore). Too bad.....great natural, neighbor state rivalry game, but only interesting to them when it was totally one-sided! I can remember sitting in our cars listening and screaming about these Arkansas games in Stillwater on AM radio.
