Offensive Review: Got to Find the Running Game, but Explosives Were Still There

STILLWATER – The offensive game plan for Arkansas went the way that the Cowboys staff had envisioned except for one thing. You have to be able to run the football! When you have the top returning rusher in FBS Division I football and an offensive line that returns all its’ starters plus two other players that qualify as returning starters then it is unfathomable that you can’t run the football.

Call me crazy, but I thought failing to take the shot at 3 points on first drive set a bad tone for 1st half. If you score after moving right down the field.....you worry them right off as they're behind and dinged up. Instead....failed 4th down gave them a huge lift and early momentum. Heard Houston Nutt interview before game. He liked 11:00 kick with a guess crowd more subdued early on....and noted how important the first 5 minutes of any football game is and Hogs needed a good start to feel competitive with a ranked OSU team.

Now we find something we both agree on, I thought that significantly swung ALL THE MOMENTUM TO THEM IN THAT FIRST HALF!!!

"Got to find the running game"...??????? Really???It's embarrassing that OSU returns linemen with the most starts and experience in college football, yet averages only a couple yards per run play. I thought all of that would be worked out by now with all the 5th & 6th year returning linemen!! Charlie Dickie needs to answer for this!

when our running game is clicking you often see Ollie dancing sideways to the next hole to find some space. I noticed that was not happening much in this game, the Hogs had that covered with their shifting defensive personnel.

Arkansas was big and they played good.... at least the 1st half.

That whole game was so damned messed up it's really not fair to start trying to point fingers at anybody.

and these fire Dickey chants really should stop until the season is over.

They, Arkansas Defense, was able to effectively neutralize our bread and butter, the inside zone, I thought the offensive staff was a little slow in going to more of a gap scheme blocking attack to knock them off the line of scrimmage! We did utilize gap scheme in the 4th quarter and had fairly good success with the ground game!!!

Teams are going to scheme all year to take Gordon out of it. If you look at a weak link on offense it's Bowman they'll make him them with his arm and he has so far….
