WACO, Texas – Oklahoma State extended its record shutout streak in its Big 12 Conference opener Thursday night as the 15th-ranked Cowgirls knocked off Baylor, 1-0, at Betty Lou Mays Field. With the win, OSU improved to 7-0-1 and remained one of only two teams in the country that have not allowed a goal this season. Baylor fell to 5-3-0. Defender Chloe’ Joseph and Mollie Breiner both had the right idea. This Cowgirls team celebrates wins and celebrates shutouts with one of the absolute best defenses in NCAA soccer this season.
The Cowgirls have not allowed a single goal all season thus far. Eight games, seven wins, one draaw, but not a single goal scored by an opponent.
Xcaret Pineda's goal in the 19th minute was the difference in a match that saw the Cowgirls outshoot the home team by a 13-9 margin and own a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Grace Gordon recorded the shutout, her sixth of the season and 12th of her OSU career, as she picked up a save and also made an impressive play late in the match to knock away a cross into the box.
OSU got the only score it needed when Laudan Wilson delivered a corner kick over the defense into the box where Pineda settled the ball and drilled an eight-yard shot to the near post for her third goal of the season.
With the 1-0 lead, OSU's defense held strong, limiting the Bears to only two shots in the final half to secure the shutout.
The Cowgirls return to action Sunday when they host Texas A&M-Commerce on Senior Day at Neal Patterson Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
