Talyn Shettron Had Breakout Performance Against Golden Hurricane
TULSA, Ok. – It was a successful passing day for Oklahoma State on Skelly Field as Alan Bowman connected for five touchdown with four different receivers.
Two of those scores went to De’Zhaun Stribling, had a career-day with 174 yards and two touchdowns on seven catches.
Another guy who really shined was, Talyn Shettron. The redshirt sophomore out of Edmond, OK, posted three catches for a career-high 110 yards and one touchdown, which included a career-high 78-yard reception for the score.
“It felt great,” Shettron told the media following the game. “I’ve been waiting for this moment, you could say, my whole career here through all the injuries and stuff. It just felt great to get back out there and feel like myself again.”
The third-year receiver has had a few injuries since arriving in Stillwater ahead of the 2022 season, playing in seven games last year before missing the rest of the year. He had six receptions for just 78 yards and three receptions for 31 yards and one touchdown in 2022.
“He's had a much better year than what he's had,” head coach Mike Gundy said after the game. “Unfortunately, he's been beat up injury-wise in his career, and he had a really good August and is starting to show signs of wanting to take that next step. And he's had some catches in the games before this one. And then today, he had an opportunity to do some things, kind of on a big stage for him. And I thought that he played pretty well.”
Shettron is the perfect example of depth on this Cowboys offense. The trio of De’Zhaun Stribling, Brennan Presley and Rashod Owens are the leaders on this offense and the go-to playmakers through the air, combing for 263 yards and three touchdowns on 17 catches.
But Shettron proved he’s next in the line and can get the job done when called upon. He’s going to be a big-time asset for Bowman and Pokes once we get to Big 12 play.
"He was a puppy when I first got here. Just seeing how he reacts with Rashod and see how him and Strib, those outside guys in the room work. Seeing all the work they put in and all the time they put in coming to fruition for him is awesome. Because, you know, it's paid off. Three or four years of just not really getting in the limelight, to be able to go for over 100 (yards) is awesome."
