STILLWATER – Oklahoma State quarterback Alan Bowman has been named in the running for two very prestigious awards this week starting with being named one of the 12 semifinalists from the Big 12 for the William V. Campbell Award. That news came out last Wednesday, The William V. Campbell Award is the academic and civic Heisman. Bowman was also named to the watch list for the eighth annual Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year on Thursday. This award was started by former Dallas Cowboys tight end and NFL Man of the Year. The award is similar in nature to the NFL award.

The College Man of the Year award is the first college football honor to focus primarily on a player’s leadership ability and recognize one’s exceptional courage, integrity and sportsmanship. The watch list includes 52 total players and nine representatives from the Big 12 Conference.

Celebrating its 35th year, the Campbell Trophy recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership. It is given by the College Football Hall of Fame and the National Football Foundation.

"These 203 semifinalists reflect not only exceptional academic and athletic talent but also the deep-rooted leadership that shows a commitment to excellence in all aspects of their lives, which is learned on the gridiron," said NFF Chairman Archie Manning, whose sons Peyton (Campbell Trophy winner) and Eli were named NFF National Scholar-Athletes in 1997 and 2003, respectively.

Among the other Big 12 semifinalists are West Virginia quarterback Garrett Greene, Kansas State linebacker Austin Moore, Texas Tech running back Tahj Brooks, and Iowa State safety Beau Freyler.

Nominated by their schools, which are limited to one nominee each, candidates for the awards must be a senior who will complete his final year of eligibility in the 2024 season or graduate student or graduate transfer who has already earned a degree and participating in the 2024 season; have a GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale; have outstanding football ability as a first team player or significant contributor; and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship. The class is selected each year by the NFF Awards Committee, which is comprised of a nationally recognized group of media, College Football Hall of Famers and athletics administrators.

The NFF will announce 12-14 finalists on Oct. 23, and each of them will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2024 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class Presented by Fidelity Investments. The finalists will travel to the Bellagio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas for the 66th NFF Annual Awards Dinner Presented by Las Vegas on Dec. 10, where their accomplishments will be highlighted in front of one of the most powerful audiences in all of sports. Live during the event, one member of the class will be declared as the winner of the 35th Campbell Trophy and have his postgraduate scholarship increased to $25,000.

Through four games of the 2024 season, Bowman has helped the Cowboys to a 3-1 record and No. 20 national ranking. Bowman has completed 91 of 145 passes for 1,173-yards and 10 touchdowns with just four interceptions. Bowman’s best performance thus far came on the road against Tulsa, throwing for 396-yards and five touchdowns and earning him Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Off the field, Bowman has also gained notoriety for his strong work in the classroom, including a spot on the CSC Academic All-District Team last season, and time spent serving the community. That time is highlighted by partnering with Access Scholarships to award a $1,000 "Sack the Stigma" scholarship to a student who recognizes the importance of speaking out about mental health, working alongside the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health to create awareness about the 988 Oklahoma Mental Health Lifeline, speaking to youth groups in various cities about the importance of mental health and volunteering to help raise funds for Cowboys vs. Cancer.

For the Jason Whitten College Man of the Year Award three finalists will be announced on December 16, with the recipient being revealed at the award ceremony at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on February 12.
