Season on the Brink? Key Matchups and Predictions for West Virginia Game

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State has no margin for error left. If the Cowboys want to fulfill their season goal of making it to the 2024 Big 12 Championship Game then likely need to run the table. If some of the craziness in the Big 12 Conference continues then maybe a three-loss team might make it to Arlington, but remember, OSU is down a tiebreaker of head-to-head with two of the teams most likely to be among the tops of the conference in Utah and Kansas State.

Here's the deal. Our QB has little or no success against man coverage. The running game has little or no success against a defense that doesn't respect our pass game. Guess what, every team we play will play man coverage and put an extra guy in the box. Until our QB play proves it can exploit man to man, 3 and outs and an exhausted defense will be life going forward.

BTW, I hope I'm dead wrong.
BTW2, November-foxtrot-whiskey OSU scores 31 points without multiple opponent turnovers and/or defensive scores.

RA--I agree with you that if the Pokes hold WV under 150 rushing yards they should win. I'm worried they will not do that but hoping the Pokes can win anyway in a high scoring game. I expect Gundy to try and flip the script on the Mountaineers and attempt to run the ball to keep their RBs on the sideline. That said, I've seen WV play three times this season and their secondary is struggling. The HC is going to be tempted to sling it against a struggling group of DBs. Should be an interesting game. Go Pokes!

aren't our rushing woes mostly due to the loss of our TE and FB from last season (and downfield blocking by the WRs)?

We were horrible rushing the ball last year until we put in Bowman permanently, moved Ollie to deep set behind the QB, and led the hole with either the motion TE or the FB, and that WR we stuck in early could really block downfield.

We must abandon the 3-man front, it didn't work when we were healthy at LB, now with all backups and new position guys, we're doomed if we don't play almost exclusively 4-man front.

Our defensive backfield doesn't seem to be able to disguise their coverages.

Yes sir, Cooper is having a good year... he ranks 3rd in the Big 12 with his PBLK grade amongst Tackles and 7th with his combined PFF grade.

What is the status of Nick Martin?

He is a preseason AA and yet nobody seems to be talking about him.

Nick is currently second in tackles in the Big 12 behind teammate Trey Rucker. He is first among LB's in the Big 12 & Power (4) schools.

Probably out for about three weeks due to a knee sprain suffered late against K State!
