Homecoming Injury Report has Familiar Refrain
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State set to kickoff here in a couple of hours with Arizona State at 2:30 p.m. inside Boone Pickens Stadium. Head coach Mike Gundy was hard on the defense this week and should have been, but the defense is down in part to being down two All-American caliber starters and edge linebacker Collin Oliver and linebacker Nick Martin will be missing again. Both have been back at practice and doing limited work and are expected to potentially be cleared later this month. It may be too late.
Oliver went down with a broken bone in his foot in the first half of the win over Arkansas. Oliver had surgery to repair the break and is out of the prptective boot and has been running around for a couple of weeks.
Linebacker Nick Martin went down in the loss at Kansas State. The injury came late in the contest and the MCL sprain is doing better, but he is still out. Also on defense safety Cam Epps is out with a torn ACL suffered at BYU. Another safety Ty Williams is out with a knee injury from the West Virginia game.
Safety Trey Rucker the team’s leading tackler was back last week at Baylor, but he didn’t seem full speed. He should be closer to that against the Sun Devils.
On offense, quarterback has been hit hard as starter at BYU Garret Rangel was out by the end of the first half with a broken collarbone suffered when he was tackled from behind on a 57-yard run. Rangel is likely out for the rest of the season. A few days before that game quarterback Zane Flores went home to Nebraska and had a foot issue corrected by surgery. He too is lost for the season and will be back for offseason and spring football.
Starting left tackle on offense Dalton Cooper is also out for the second game with a ruptured plantar but should be back as soon as next week at TCU.
