Oklahoma State Picks Up Linebacker 2025 Pledge in Carl Albert's Carl'Veon Young

STILLWATER – The rapid developing recruitment of a rapidly developing player in Carl Albert High School linebacker Carl’Veon Young has come to a conclusion with Young committing to Oklahoma State and head coach Mike Gundy. The rangy 6-4 ½, 215 pound Young was offered last week by the Cowboys. On Friday night he and his Titans teammates destroyed Guthrie 29-0 in a showdown for the district championship at “The Rock” Jelsma Stadium in Guthrie. In that contest Young had six tackles, all unassisted.

The next day he was at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater on an unofficial visit to Oklahoma State. He is scheduled to make his official visit to OSU for the Texas Tech game on the weekend of Nov. 23.

Now, Nov. 6, Young has made his commitment to Gundy and the Oklahoma State program. The Cowboys were the first Division I program to offer Young, who has multiple teammates committed to other Division I schools. Cornerback Trystan Hayes, linebacker Marcus James, and safety Trynae Washington are all committed to Oklahoma and have been for some time. Young has really developed and actually has more tackles than any of the trio committed to OU. Now, players at Carl Albert have played various lenghths as the 9-0 Titans that are 6-0 in District play have routed most opponents.

Young on the season has 44 tackles with 31 of those unassisted. He has a whopping eight-tackles-for-loss and two sacks. Young had an interception earlier this season at Lawton Eisenhower. He has defended a pass and also caused a fumble. He is a disruptive player for head coach Mike Dunn.

A track athlete that finished fifth at state in the long jump (20-4) and eighth in the high jump (6-0) as a junior. He has a personal best of 6’6” in the high jump, which he did last season. This is a good pickup of a good athlete that is still developing physically and as a football player.

In a crazy coincidence, his brother Carlsheon Young is a 6-5 basketball standout that used to be at Midwest City and is now at PHH Prep and is a top 100 basketball prospect. He was committed to Oklahoma State when Mike Boynton was head coach. He opened up his recruiting and is still being recruited by Oklahoma State under Steve Lutz. He is also being pursued by Arizona State, California, Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Mississippi and TCU among others.
