STILLWATER – Oklahoma State is hosting a talented veteran quarterback out of the transfer portal. Pokes Report can confirm former North Texas and TCU quarterback, Chandler Morris, is currently on campus for a visit.

We’re not sure if it’s an official or unofficial visit for Morris, but we can also report his father, former head coach at Arkansas and SMU, Chad Morris, is also on campus.

If we are brining him in to fight with our young QBs and see who wins it, it will be great. but if we are bringing in to be our QB1 (Maybe because our staff don't trust any of our QBs), then we should be looking at someone better.

Jordan Davis is a intriguing option for OC though!

I swear if they sign another QB and I'm Flores, Smith, or Rangel I'm in the portal before the sun sets.

It would be to bring him him to compete with them for the job.

Everyone making this extra Nil money into this big ordeal and this is who we are trying to get? I'm sure he's fine but if he's just trying to compete with what we have hopefully we aren't spending a lot. They played Texas Tech his line was 162 yards 2tds 3ints. Against Army 214 yards 2ints. He had good games against bad teams but so does Bowman.

I could see Rangel leaving if they do. Flores and Smith I doubt it

If Chad Morris is hired as the OC, I will be speechless. To say I'll be disappointed would be generous.

Did you read the dang article the only OC mentioned was Jordan Davis who is the OC at North Texas we which averaged 490 ypg this year!!!

I did read the article! Including this quote: "We don't know if Chad is here as Chandler's dad, or if Chandler is here because his dad could be the next offensive coordinator, both would be a great fit in Mike Gundy's system."
Which is what I was responding to, Joe. Did you read the article?

Think it would be great for him to come to OSU. Someone please tell me why it wouldn't be good!?

"Morris ranks fifth nationally in passing with 3,774 yards and 31 touchdowns to just 12 INTs. Also a threat with his feet, Morris has ran for another 242 yards and four touchdowns this season. Morris threw for at least 300 yards in seven of the dozen games he's played in this season, and he has also thrown for at least three touchdowns in seven games. He eclipsed 400 passing yards in four games."

Only thing I worry about is the competition. The two games he played against teams of big 12 caliber he did not fair well at all. Maybe throw in Memphis which he played well.

"So because of Morris visit, Davis is a name TO WATCH IN THE OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR SEARCH. He was on put original.liat we put out last week. If both Chad and Chandler are here, ITS CERTAINLY POSSIBLE DAVIS IN IN THE EQUATION!!!". THIS WAS POORLY WTITTEN ARTICLE BY ZACH BECAUSE IT YOU ARE LED TO BELIEVE BOTH THE CURRENT UNT O COORDINATOR IS A CANDIDATE OR CHANDLER'S GATHER BUT ROBERT HAS NOT MENTIONED HIM ONCE AS A CANDIDATE! SEE HIS STORIES! It says in the title the they are HOSTING Chandler!

You can only recruit the portal players that enter the portal. The Athletic has Morriss the #3 rated QB in the portal. Arnold is # 1.

I believe the Cowboys are going to get a triple play from North Texas:
1. Offensive Coordinator Jordan Davis
2. Quarterback Chandler Morris
3. Wide Receiver DT Sheffield

Would love it! I am slightly nervous about Jordan Davis not having play caller experience (all indications are Morris calls plays for UNT). But their offensive numbers have been great

The top candidate is Brennan Marion from UNLV (Go Go offense which led them to 10 wins this year) but he is waiting to see if he is named HC the here since Barry Odom was hired away by Purdue!

Offensive Coordinator Jordan Davis ….
2023-Coordinated one of the top offenses in the American and the nation in 2023. Under his leadership, North Texas boasted one of only four offenses nationally during the regular season to include a 3,000-yard passer, a 1,000-yard rusher and a 1,000-yard receiver. UNT finished led the AAC and ranked No. 6 nationally in total offense (495.8), plus ranks of No. 12 in passing offense (304.7) and No. 21 in both rushing offense (191.2) and scoring (34.5).
2024-In his second season at North Texas, Davis guided the Mean Green to the 26th-best scoring offense in the country, averaging 34 points a game. UNT ranks third in yards per game with 488.7.

Would love to have a young, but proven, energetic Offensive Coordinator paired with
the extremely experienced old fashioned hard ass hit you in the mouth Defensive Coordinator!

Have seen/heard that as well. If there's no way on Craddock, Marion is my first preference.

Marion is probably the choice and we are waiting to see if the gets the job. At least that's the way it's feeling. Why else wouldn't you hire someone yet?

If we sign a QB out of the portal, I guess the coaching staff doesn't like one or more of our current guys to ever be the guy.

BTW - Chandler Morris was pathetic vs OSU in 2021.

isn't it about competition? Isn't it always about competition? We usually call that depth, I think.

What would prevent the current guys from winning the job regardless of what other QBs show up next year, from HS or from the Portal?

Because now we HAVE to pay players - especially those signed out of the portal. The real tale of the tape is the 2025 "salaries" of Rangel, Flores and Smith vs the high-six to seven figures it will take to get Morris or some other worth while portal QB. We clearly have an NIL funding concern. Not a fan of paying meaningful money that's just gonna sit on the bench.

You have to remember 2 of the 3 are recovering from injuries. While those injuries shouldn't be a problem, we do know that sometimes their are complications and delays. I think this is driven by that.

You don't want those injuries to be a problem, but if you don't take action now you won't have a chance later.

I enjoyed watching in-person the slow as molasses Army defense shut down UNT. What a joke of an offense that team has. Army doesn't have anyone - I mean anyone - on the defense who runs faster than 4.7. And maybe only two who run faster than 4.8. But Army is my other team of choice so I was happy. But UNT looked pathetic.

While I agree that UNT is not a great team, they aren't really loaded with talent. You're really denigrating Army. That team may be smaller and slower than some, but a team's value can be greater than its individual parts. This Army team is that. They're tough, disciplined, and play as a team. They shut down everyone they played but ND who could out talent them terribly.

are you suggesting that the OC, or Gundy, will play the QB that is paid the most, instead of playing the other guy(s) who might actually be better?

I'm not a fan of wasting money, but sometimes that is what insurance looks like, a waste of money, until you need it.

No. I'm suggesting we need to spend the NIL $ wisely. Paying for 4 P4 QBs doesn't sound prudent.

I thought we were going to revenue sharing where everybody gets paid.

Well right now while we have 3 QB's on the team, two are injured. Recovery is never an exact thing so the staff can't count on them being ready for Spring or even Fall. If you're going to get insurance you need to do it now, because you really can't do it later.

Well that is coming, but is not implemented. It looks like it will kick in in the Spring, but until it does they have to go forward as if its not being implemented.
