Oklahoma State Adds North Texas Tight End Hammond Out of Portal
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State has added a second tight end out of the transfer portal to add to the depth at the position with returning freshman Josh Ford and the recent pickup from Central Arkansas in Jordan Owens (6-6, 260). The new addition is North Texas tight end Oscar Hammond. That news was confirmed Friday evening (Dec. 20) by Pokes Report. Hammond had offers since going into the portal from Arizona, UCLA, Miami of Ohio, Bowling Green, San Jose State, and Florida Atlantic.
Last season at North Texas after transferring from University of Central Oklahoma, Hammond caught 19 passes for 238-yards. He averaged 12.5-yards per catch and had one touchdown thrown to him by Chandler Morris against Stephen F. Austin.
Hammond is 6-4, and 236 pounds and will have two seasons to play in Stillwater.
The native of Colinsville, Okla. won a state championship as a senior on the campus of UCO and then committed to play there. In high school for the Cardinals he caught 50 passes for over 1,100-yards with 22 touchdowns. Of those touchdowns, 18 were on receptions, the other three were defensive scores and a reverse.
In his freshman season at UCO he broke out and earned third-team All-MIAA honors. He caught 25 passes for 327-yards and a touchdown. The touchdown was an 80-yard reception at Fort Hays State in a crucial win for the Bronchos.
He is a good blocking tight end with elite pass receiving skills. That gives all three of the Oklahoma State tight ends some different skill sets.
