Oklahoma State Adds Another Offensive Lineman Formerly Coached by Mitchell

STILLWATER – The OKlahoma State football staff has continued to work the portal hard right up until the dead period from Christmas starting on Sunday at midnight. New offensive line coach Andrew Mitchell has seen several candidates come through the West End Zone since he arrived, some with his urging and some previously contacted. The latest pledge on the offensive line is Louis Canepa. Mitchell has coached him in Las Cruces. Canepa visited Oklahoma State this past weekend.

“It was amazing,” Canepa said of his visit. “I was blown away with all the facilites and how great they are and all the new people they had brought in. Coach (Cooper) Bassett, I clicked with him and then, of course, Coach (Andrew) Mitchell it just fit perfectly for me.”

The 6-4, 320 pound combo offensive lineman played in all 12 games this past season and started four of those at right guard. Honestly, he has played more collegiate snaps at offensive tackle than guard. The offense averaged 179-yards a game rushing to finish fourth in Conference USA, kind of a continuation of the season before. In 2023, Canepa played in 14 of the 15 games for New Mexico State and started 10 of those games. The Aggies finished 14^th in the nation in rushing yards per game at 198.7-yards average per contest. 

His versatility makes him a valuable player for the offensive line.

In his true freshman season, Canepa played in just one game.

Canepa at guard but he can easily shift to tackle.

He is originally from the Napa Valley in California and played at Vintage High School. He was an All-League offensive lineman and also played baseball and golf in high school. He came out ranked as the No. 15 offensive line prospect in California.

“I was just a guy coming out of high school that thought I would play at the Power Four level and then COVID messed that up,” Canepa explained of his trek in college football. “I went on all the visits and had a great time and then Coach Mitch (Andrew Mitchell) called me and I was at New Mexico State with a great opportunity. I improved from there.”

His tape shows he is a masher at the guard position but has the feet to pass protect at offensive tackle. The communications major said he is ready to get to Stillwater in two weeks and roll up his sleeves and get to work.
