Oklahoma State Lands Former TCU Quarterback Hauss Hejny Out of Transfer Portal

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State is getting its quarterback out of the transfer portal after all as former TCU quarterback, Hauss Hejny, has signed with the Cowboys, Pokes Report can confirm.

Hauss Hejny, pronounced Hoss HAY-nee, checks in at 6-0, 190 pounds, and is originally out of Aledo (TX) HS in the 2024 class. He was a four-star quarterback coming out of high school, ranked as a consensus top 300 prospect, as well as a top 20 quarterback prospect.

He chose TCU over offers from Baylor, Duke, Houston, Nebraska, Oklahoma State (offered in Feb. 2023), Ole Miss, Utah and West Virginia among others.

Later on Sunday (Dec. 29) Pokes Report caught up and spoke with the new Cowboy quarterback.

As expected from a true freshman, Hejny redshirted this past season for the Horned Frogs, playing in four games. While he didn’t attempt a pass, he did have 15 carries for 65 yards.

USA TODAY Sports
Hejny at Aledo High School was a 4-star recruit.

Going back to his senior season with Aledo, Hejny completed 154-of233 passes for 2,773 yards and 27 touchdown passes to nine interceptions. While he was an accomplished passer, Hejny was very good on his feet as he had 127 carries for 1,041 yards and 13 touchdowns.

So, Mike Gundy has added a quarterback with the exact abilities he was wanting: a decent arm and can run.

He also has a relationship with OSU offensive coordinator, Doug Meacham, as both were at TCU together last season. So, there’s familiarity, as well as with new quarterbacks coach, Kevin Johns, who was at Duke as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach while recruiting Hejny.

Both of his parents were athletes at TCU, his mom JimAnne was a basketball player and long jumper and his dad, Jesse, played football after transferring in from a California JUCO.

Hejny comes to Stillwater as a redshirt freshman, joining quarterbacks Zane Flores, Garret Rangel and Maealiuaki Smith, who will all be battling for the starting job next fall come spring football.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
He said he left because a young guy got the job over him and he doesn't want to wait 2 years. So if Flores for example gets the job in his mind he will be waiting a couple years. Which as previously stated he doesn't want to do.

It'll be very interesting. I wish we could've got a glimpse of Flores but MG knows better than us so I'm sure he will make the right choice.

Since he only played in 4 games it counts as his redshirt year. I checked previously with Robert.
LOL.. sure... I wonder what happens if he only plays in 4 games next year too? Oh my, Oh my.

I guess I answered my own question..... it doesn't really matter, it counts as one year of eligibility gone, it doesn't really matter which year is the redshirt year (unless you play 4 straight years, then you're out anyway)

perhaps the question that should be asked, if a kid DID NOT redshirt in JUCO, and joins OSU this season, does he now have a redshirt year, 4 years to play 5?

No if you play under 4 games in any year it doesn't count.

I could be moot soon as they are considering changing it to 5 years to play 5.

Currently you have 4 years to play 5. Any year that you play in 4 or fewer games can be counted as your one redshirt year. The Juco rules are being litigated, so who knows.

The juco issue is separate, as that is based on the fact the NCAA doesn't start your clock at any other organizations or options so why should juco play use up your NCAA eligibility. Most likely this applies to NAIA as well. So this is happening regardless of what the NCAA does about eligibility.

The 5 in 5 is just where the NCAA feels they need to go.

it does too count.... what if you play 5 years and only play in 4 games or less in EVERY year? (or, gasp, don't get on the field at all)?

You know what happens, you run out of eligibility. It does not matter at that point which of those years that you only played 4 games counts as your "red shirt year".
