Oklahoma State Softball Shuts Out Arizona State 4-0
TEMPE, Ariz. — A complete game shutout from Ruby Meylan led the No. 18 Oklahoma State softball team to a 4-0 victory over Arizona State at Alberta B. Farrington Softball Stadium Wednesday. It was the Cowgirls' third consecutive win and their fifth in the last seven games.
In a contest that counted as a midweek non-conference game between the two Big 12 opponents, OSU improved to 22-9 overall. The Sun Devils fell to 24-14.
Megan Bloodworth opened the scoring with a solo home run in the third inning, her sixth of the season.
OSU added two runs in the fifth due to opportunistic baserunning and execution. With Bloodworth on third and one out, Tia Warsop hit an infield grounder and the Sun Devils tried to get Bloodworth at third. However, the throw from ASU catcher Samantha Swan rolled down the left field line, allowing Bloodworth to score and Warsop to sprint all the way to third base. Rosie Davis followed with a safety squeeze bunt to score Warsop and make it a three-run advantage.
The final run came in the seventh inning when a productive ground-out to second from Audrey Schneidmiller scored Tallen Edwards from third.
Meylan picked up the win for the Cowgirls and improved to 14-3, pitching a complete game with three strikeouts and four hits allowed. The Sun Devils' Kenzie Brown dropped to 12-4. This is Meylan's seventh time going the distance on the year.
Wednesday's contest continued a recent trend of solid pitching and defense for the Cowgirls, who have allowed only three runs in their last three games.
Offensive standouts for Oklahoma State included Bloodworth (2-for-3 with a home run and an RBI), Schneidmiller (1-for-1 with an RBI) and Tallen Edwards (2-for-3 with a run).
With her run, Edwards has crossed home plate in three-straight games.
The Cowgirls return to action when they open a three-game Big 12 series with Arizona at 8 p.m. Friday against in Tucson. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Varsity Network app.
