OSU Recruiting Update - Portal and Receivers - Cameron Abshire Commits as He Leaves
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State is sitting at seven on commitments in the 2026 recruiting class, the high school class. The transfer portal class has added two in the last 24 hours, with the latest being Emory and Henry University Division II All-American wide receiver, Cameron Abshire.
Abshire will be a redshirt junior and have two seasons to play in Stillwater.
He was a standout football and basketball player in high school at Roanoke Northside in Virginia. Last season Abshire earned NCAA Division II All-American honors with 51 catches for 1,057-yards, 13 touchdowns, and he averaged over 20-yards a catch for Emory and Henry. It rhymes.
Abshire is deceptively fast and has drawn the interest of some other good Division I schools. He told me today before meeting with Mike Gundy that he would hit these other visits and make a decision soon. The decision came even sooner, must have been a good conversation with Gundy.
The headliner of the high school class is Jenks running back Kaydin K.D. Jones, who is still talking about how excited he is and is still working on adding more names, more in-state recruits to the four Oklahoma prospects already pledged.

High school recruiting takes a step back this weekend. Traffic will be crazy and no hotel rooms available for official visitors with the Boys from Oklahoma concerts running Thursday through Sunday.
Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy and Director of Recruiting Todd Bradford and his recruiting staff have jumped hard into transfer portal recruiting. They got the commitment from running back Freddie Brock, who has played at Georgia State most recently, and before that at Maine. Brock is 5-10 195 pounds and will help the depth at the position after redshirt freshman Jaden Allen-Hendrix suffered a serious knee injury on the first day of spring. He came in at the same time as Cameron Abshire but committed earlier and left town earlier as well.

He chose the Pokes over interest from Liberty, Sam Houston State, South Florida, UMass, UTEP and Western Kentucky among others. Michigan State, Nebraska and West Virginia showed interest before his commitment. Last season Brock posted 151 carries for 819 yards and eight touchdowns, which was up from his first season of 30 carries for 307 yards and one touchdown.
He began his college career at the University of Maine, where he had 135 carries for 705 yards and seven touchdowns in year one. His numbers went down in year two with 61 carries for 260 yards and two scores.
“Just the atmosphere of everything and all of the history Oklahoma State has in like running backs going here and having success,” Brock told me already back home in Georgia. “I could see myself doing that as well coming up from Group of Five to the Big 12 and running that way as well.”

Running back: check. So, now the Pokes are looking for a tall target to add to the wide receiver corps.
Christian Fitzpatrick arrives Wednesday (April 9) evening and will be here through Thursday. He fits the bill at 6-4, 217 pounds. Out of Southfield, Mich, Fitzpatrick started his college career at Louisville and then transferred to Michigan State. With the Spartans he played in 28 games and in 2023 he caught 18 passes for 252-yards and a touchdown.
Now, at Marshall last season (2024), he started all 13 games and led the team in receiving with 34 receptions for 576-yards and six touchdowns. He earned national recognition, including ESPN, for a spectacular catch in the game with Virginia Tech.

Passing him on the way out is Division II All-American Cameron Abshire. Abshire kind of surprised me a little because I thought he was really determined to take more visits. You can see from the picture with his folks at practice on Tuesday that they seemed to enjoy Oklahoma State and Stillwater.
They did to the extent of Cameron making a commitment. The question now is, will the Cowboys take two big receiving targets out of the portal?
