Oklahoma State Drops 1-0 Heartbreaker to No. 3 Texas
STILLWATER — No. 23 Oklahoma State Softball lost a 1-0 decision to No. 2 Texas Wednesday in front of a record crowd of 2,012 at Cowgirl Stadium.
The Cowgirls dropped to 27-16 overall with the loss, and the Longhorns improved to 42-6 on the season.
Texas entered the game with a .361 batting average as a team, but the Oklahoma State pitching staff and a error-free defensive performance limited the Texas offense. Ruby Meylan threw five innings with no runs and six hits allowed. RyLee Crandall (3-4) took the hard-luck loss despite a productive outing in relief. Neither Meylan nor Crandall allowed a walk all game.
The Longhorns’ Citaly Gutierrez improved to 9-0 with the win.
The game’s lone run was scored in the fifth inning thanks to an RBI single from Mia Scott. The Cowgirls had at least one runner on base every inning but were held scoreless in the game, stranding runners in scoring position in the fifth and again in the sixth.
The Cowgirls return to action at 5 p.m. Friday to kick off a Big 12 series against Kansas in Lawrence. The game will be live streamed on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Varsity Network app.
