STILLWATER – Former Oklahoma State linebacker and All-Big 12 performer (2023) Nick Martin got to here his name called as the San Francisco 49ers selected Martin in the 3rd round of the NFL Draft on Friday night. This was earlier than any draft experts thought that Martin would. It proves that his production on the field and his excellent testing stood up at least in the Niners draft war room. Martin watched the selection with his family including his girlfriend and newborn son Saint Creed Martin in Oklahoma City. Martin told Pokes Report this week that he wanted it that way and that he would dress up in an outfit from his fashion line that he designed to wear for the draft.

Martin was impressive throughout the stages of the draft process as he played well Senior Bowl week and then in the NFL Combine ran a 4.53 in the forty with a 38-inch vertical, 10’3” broad jump and a linebacker best 26 reps on the bench press test. His size at 5-11.4 and 221 pounds was a negative, but he has overcome the size in college to play large.

Martin in his 2023 season with one of 140 tackles.

Martin, originally from Pleasant Grove High School in Texarkana, Texas, played four seasons at Oklahoma State as he redshirted his first year in 2021. It was the 2023 season where he led the Big 12 in tackles with 140 and 16 tackles-for-loss with six sacks to earn first-team All-Big 12 honors. He was also voted a team captain, something rare for a sophomore at OSU. Last season in just five games he had 47 tackles and 7.5 for loss with a sack before a knee injury wiped out the rest of his season.

In his career, he also had two interceptions and forced two fumbles. He is tremendously athletic and very smart. A good student, a good attitude and locker room teammate, that is also very interested in music, arts, writing. He is a talented person, but the NFL just needs to know he is a stone cold tackler and a physical football player.
