STILLWATER – Oklahoma State gained another monster commitment to finish off the June recruiting period as Owasso (OK) HS four-star defensive lineman, Tajh Overton, officially announced his commitment to the Pokes.

“First off, I want to thank God for putting me in this position, I don’t know where I would be without him. Secondly, I want to thank anyone who has supported me through this process, ranging from my coaches, my friends, my family and even more. With that being said, it is truly my honor to announce I’ll be committing to Oklahoma State, Go Pokes!!!”

The 6-3, 280-pound top-rated prospect in Oklahoma for 2026 was in Norman visiting Oklahoma just before the dead period. However, after his OU visit and on his way home, Overton called head coach Mike Gundy and his coaching staff and told them he was going to be a Cowboy. The announcement was delayed as Overton got his graphics and set a time until he could pull all of his family, friends and festivities together on June 27.

It was a big visit weekend in Stillwater last week, with Jenks running back KD Jones, Bixby linebacker Trey McGlothlin on official visits. Some of the committed prospects from the Tulsa area like Overton’s teammate Carter Langenderfer were there too. Overton must have been thinking about being there.

That was huge news! It was big when he called head coach Mike Gundy and it was big when he publicly added his name to the others like Jones, Langenderfer, McGlothlin and Berryhill offensive tackle Aiden Martin.

Overton turned down a lot of good schools. He visited OU (June 20), Ole Miss (June 13) and LSU on May 30. His official visit to Stillwater was on June 17 right after the Ole Miss visit. He also went to Nebraska and Auburn on unofficial visits. His top 11 out of the close to 30 schools that offered also included USC, Tennessee, Michigan State, Miami (FL), Kansas State, Arkansas and Arizona State.

Overton exploded his sophomore season with 65 tackles, 25 tackles for loss, five sacks and 15 QB pressures. He went national immediately because he had the size and at Owasso was going against high level high school competition.

Last season he battled some injures but still had a huge influence in getting Owasso to the Class 6A-I championship where they lost in overtime to Bixby. He still earned second-team All-Metro honors and All-State mention as well. There is no doubt opposing offenses double and even triple-teamed to try and take him out of the equation. He is that physically imposing.

Overton made his official visit to Oklahoma State in June, but he had been to Stillwater numerous times for recruiting functions and just unofficial visits, usually to watch practice. The OSU staff in recruiting with director of recruiting Todd Bradford, defensive line recruiting analyst D.J. Linton, and director of football finance Kenyatta Wright had been on active in keeping up the recruiting and then the new defensive staff was active as well.

It was a long and consistent effort that appears to have won out this recruiting battle.

Overton is also another trainee with former Oklahoma State defensive lineman Christian Littlehead, who does not recruit for Oklahoma State, but tries to make sure the players are aware of all they need to know in the recruiting process to come up with the best answer for them.

You can add Overton’s name to the bombshell commitment from Arkansas in Danny Beale III as those two will someday possibly make up a dominating defensive middle in Stillwater. Both are ESPN Top 300-ranked players.

Overton makes it 13 in the Oklahoma State class for 2026.
