Captain America is coming off one of the best seasons in Oklahoma State wrestling history, and that’s saying a lot. He posted a perfect 27-0 record, which including 13 pins, eight tech falls and a bonus point percentage of 81.5.
He won the Big 12 heavyweight title over in Tulsa, before rolling his way through the NCAAs and the national championship match against career-undefeated wrestler, Gable Steveson. After nearly three grueling periods, Hendrickson got a late takedown and rode Steveson out to win his first NCAA championship.
Following the season, Hendrickson won the Hodge Trophy, wrestling’s equivalent to the Heisman Trophy, becoming the first Cowboy heavyweight since Steve Mocco to win the award.
For his pinning efforts, Hendrickson won the Schalles Award, which is given to the nation’s top pinner. This marked the third time in his career he won the award.
Following his season, Hendrickson dominated his way to a place on USA Wrestling’s senior world team by winning the U.S. Open at 125 kg and two wins at Final X. He’ll wrestle for a world title in Croatia in September.
