Cowboys Pro Day Equals Quality Over Quantity

STILLWATER – The NFL scouts, coaches, and front office executives descend on Oklahoma State University and Stillwater tomorrow and in talking with Oklahoma State assistant athletic director for athletic performance Rob Glass there will be plenty of folks on hand.

Oklahoma State Athletics
There is a limit of only three people per NFL team, but should still be a big crowd.

“The league has its own rule this season in that only three people per team can be here, so that is why you’ve seen multiple pro days at places like Alabama and Clemson,” Glass explained. It is Rob Glass that heads up the Pro Day at Oklahoma State. He organizes it and works with the NFL folks. This season it has been harder because of the COVID-19 issues and the absence of the NFL Combine. “This is the combine for all of our kids, but five of them (Teven Jenkins, Tylan Wallace, Chuba Hubbard, Rodarius Williams, and Amen Ogbongbemiga) were actually invited to the combine had they had it.”

Glass said the NFL interest is high with scouts, but plenty of positions coaches including offensive line for Jenkins, wide receiver coaches for Wallace, and secondary coaches for Williams. He said there were some teams sending assistant general managers.

No lazar timing device as all the teams want to use their scouts watches and have a consistent stopwatch and operator on all prospects from Oklahoma State and where their scouts have clocked draft prospects at other pro days.

“These guys (scouts) get paid for their skills,” added Glass.

Here is the roster for the Cowboys that will participate in Pro Day 2021.

No. Name Pos. Ht. Wt. Class Hometown/HS
1 Calvin Bundage LB/Edge 6-1 220 RS-Sr. Edmond (Santa Fe), Okla.
30 Chuba Hubbard RB 6-0 208 RS-Jr. Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada
73 Teven Jenkins OL 6-6 320 RS-Sr. Topeka, Kan.
84 Dayton Metcalf TE 6-3 240 RS-Sr. Hooker, Okla.
92 Cameron Murray DT 6-3 300 RS-Sr. Bryant, Ark.
7 Amen Ogbongbemiga LB 6-1 235 RS-Sr. Calgary, Alberta, Canada
50 Ry Schneider OL 6-3 320 RS-Sr. Minco, Okla.
17 Dillon Stoner WR 6-0 200 RS-Sr. Tulsa (Jenks), Okla.
Tylan Wallace WR 6-0 190 Sr. Fort Worth (South Hills), Texas
8 Rodarius Williams  CB 6-0 195 RS-Sr.  Shreveport (Calvary Bapt.), La.

The participants, especially Wallace, Dillon Stoner, and Dayton Metcalf are fortunate that Glass secured former Oklahoma State and current Edmonton Eskimos quarterback in the CFL Taylor Cornelius to throw the football to them. Glass said it is fortunate that the Edmonton general manager was a good guy and allowed Cornelius to participate.

Here are the expectations we have for the Oklahoma State Pro Day participants.

Teven Jenkins is on a lot of first-round mock drafts.

Teven Jenkins – OT: He needs to lift well, north of 24 on the bench rep and he will run well. I would guess somewhere near 5.0 flat. He is so good on OL drills and has such athletic feet that in the pajama party that the Pro Day is he will look outstanding. Jenkins could secure his first-round status.

Tylan Wallace – WR: No brainer here in our opinion as Wallace will clock in the 4.4 range. If he runs. I think he will, but he could let his final timed forty in Frisco at the training center stand. He will test well on everything else and I’m wondering if the league has seen what a devastating blocker Wallace is. Teams that skip over him are crazy in our opinion.

Rodarius Williams – CB: His brother Greedy at Cleveland helps his status, but I think Rodarius has really improved in time. His cover skills were awesome last season, and he will run well. If he and Wallace stage a one-on-one they may boost each other. It will be a tremendous show for the NFL folks.

Chuba Hubbard – RB: There will be questions, but those won’t be answered at Pro Day except maybe in interviews, but I’m not sure they are doing any. Hubbard will run well and test well on everything.

Amen Ogbongbemiga – LB: I haven’t seen Ogbongbemiga since the bowl game as he went to California and trained there with Hubbard. I would guess he has been tightened for this. He is very athletic and should do well in all the drills.

AP Jerry Larson
Stoner had an all-time day vs. Baylor last season.

Dillon Stoner – WR: This may be the sleeper of the day as Stoner is faster and stronger than some may imagine. He will test very well. Then his skills in route running and making catches are spectacular. He always seemed to have a special connection to Cornelius.

Calvin Bundage – LB: This really depends on what each NFL team feels Bundage can do for them. He will test excellent with speed and strength for his size. The question begs is he big enough to edge rush. How much can he help on special teams. How many things can you find for him to do?

Cameron Murray – DT: I’ve said for a while that Murray has a shot at making the league. This is a huge day for him to show what he has and get some team interested in signing him as a free rookie agent. A huge day and he could get in on the back end of the draft.

Ry Schneider – OC/OL: Schneider is as tough as they come, and I will be rooting for him. He came on and turned into a force at center. I’ll never forget that West Virginia upset in 2018 where he started at center against the Mountaineers stout nose guard. Schneider had him beat and he was on the sideline for the second half.

Dayton Metcalf – TE: I just don’t know. A walk-on that played well and played a lot on special teams. A strong day might get him signed as a rookie free agent or a rookie camp invitee to be looked out.

Pokes Report
Measurements are a big part of Pro Day.

The schedule starts at 8:30 a.m with the Wonderlic test. The NFL personnel check in from 8:30-9:30 a.m. and at 9:30 they hear from Coach Glass. Measurements, jumping, and bench press begin in the weight room at 10 a.m.

Then the process moves across the street at approximately 11 a.m. for the running tests, agility drills, and position specific skills.

With only 10 players Pro Day shouldn’t last long, but with these 10 players it should be memorable.
