"I probably have 72 (swing) feels right now." Viktor Hovland
It was a good start for the Oklahoma State guys on Thursday at the BMW Championship at Caves Valley Golf Club in Maryland as both Rickie Fowler and Viktor Hovland shot 3-under 67 and are tied for fourth.
Rickie was the steady hand, never really in trouble, just picking his spots and rolling in birdies. Exactly what you want to see from a veteran — calm, patient, and putting himself in position.
Viktor, on the other hand, gave us the full ride. An eagle on the 3rd got things going, then a couple of bogeys mixed in, and finally a strong push late with birdies on 16 and 17. A little more erratic, but when he’s dialed in like that, he can make birdies in bunches.
Hovland’s first round is even more impression considering this is his first tournament since bowing out of the Travelers Championship back in mid-June due to a neck injury.
Still early, but seeing both Cowboys near the top after day one makes it easy to stay locked in for the rest of the weekend.
