STILLWATER – Former Oklahoma State Cowboys Viktor Hovland, Rickie Fowler and Sam Stevens wrapped up play at the 2025 BMW Championship at Caves Valley Golf Club in Maryland. Hovland did what he needed to secure a spot at the Tour Championship, while Fowler’s late stumble left him outside the top 30 in the FedEx Cup standings.

Victor Hovland Steady Despite Neck Injury

Hovland entered the BMW Championship inside the FedEx Cup’s top 10, needing only a solid showing to lock in a trip to East Lake. He delivered steady golf across the weekend at Caves Valley, continuing his reputation as one of the most consistent former Cowboys on the PGA Tour.

The question now is health. Hovland is managing a nagging neck injury, leaving his Tour Championship status day-to-day. With world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler surging into East Lake, Hovland faces long-shot odds at the FedEx Cup title — though his calm, composed game still gives him a chance to make noise.

Rickie Fowler’s Run Ends Outside Top 30

Fowler’s path was tougher as he needed a top-four finish at Caves Valley to reach the Tour Championship. He started with a bogey at the opening hole but fought back with birdies at 4, 5, 7 and 9. Fowler added another at 10, slipped with a bogey on 12, then grabbed one back at 13.

That momentum unraveled quickly. A bogey at 14 followed by a double bogey at 15 sealed his fate. Fowler had outside looks at birdie on 17 and 18, but neither putt truly threatened. Instead of booking a trip to East Lake, Fowler’s season ends just short of the finish line.

Sam Stevens Finishes 42nd at Caves Valley

Former Cowboy Sam Stevens also teed it up at Caves Valley but never factored into contention. He finished +11, placing 42nd out of the 50 golfers in the BMW field.

Cowboys Legacy Carries On

With Fowler and Stevens bowing out, Hovland remains the lone Cowboy advancing to East Lake. His health and Scheffler’s form are the big storylines entering the 2025 Tour Championship, but Oklahoma State golf will once again be represented on one of the sport’s biggest stages.
