STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State football team was revealed at No. 15 in the second College Football Playoff Selection Committee Rankings of the 2020 season, a rise of 8 spots from last week. The rankings were released Tuesday evening on ESPN.
After the ranking show, College Football Playoff Committee chair Gary Barta gave a explained the reasoning for the big jump for the Cowboys.
“Oklahoma State, they beat Texas Tech last week. When you combine that over the wins over Iowa State and No. 24 Tulsa, you combine that with the teams that were around them. Seven of the teams that were above them either didn't play or lost. The combination of their body of work, most importantly, and then combining that with the people around them, really pushed them up to get into that 15 spot.”
Oklahoma State has been ranked as high as No. 6 this season in the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches polls. This week the Cowboys are No. 19 in the Associated Press and No. 18 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
The Cowboys have been ranked in the CFP Selection Committee’s top 25 in five of the past six seasons, including 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2020.
The top 10 in the CFP rankings, in order, are Alabama, Notre Dame, Clemson, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Florida, Cincinnati, Georgia, Iowa State and Miami, Fla.
OSU is one of three Big 12 teams in the rankings and is joined by Iowa State (No. 9) and Oklahoma (No. 11). Oklahoma State is 1-1 against those teams. Tulsa is ranked No. 24, so that gives the Cowboys a 2-1 mark against teams ranked in the College Football Playoff rankings
Also ranked in every week of this season’s AP Top 25 and Amway Coaches Poll’s, Oklahoma State travels to Fort Worth to take on TCU Saturday at 11 a.m. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN2 and can be heard on the Cowboy Radio Network as well as SiriusXM.
