STILLWATER – There have been several questions surrounding Oklahoma State football for the past few weeks following the firing of head coach Mike Gundy. The biggest question, albeit football-adjacent, has been if Chad Weiberg was going to be the athletic director moving forward.

He has been working without a contract for a while and has yet to have a new contract announced, despite leading the on-going head coaching search for football.

Well, we appear to finally have an update on the AD situation. Eric Bailey of the Tulsa World is reporting OSU president Jim Hess said “in strong terms” while at an event at OSU-Tulsa Chad Weiberg will be the athletic director moving forward.

Still no contract announcement but having confirmation of the AD is a huge stabilizer moving forward. No one worth their salt would take a job not knowing who their boss would be, especially a high-profile job as a D1 P4 head football coach.

While the coaching search is going on behind closed doors with a third-party search team, this gives OSU some stability to go out and find the best coach they can, who will come in and start being a roster and coaching staff as soon as they arrive.

With a public announcement from president Hess, I would imagine a new contract announcement for Weiberg would be on the way. But time will tell.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I could've swore they announced Chad indeed had and accepted a new contract a day after or maybe it was the day they announced Gundy got canned.

Me too. It was a 4-year deal. Can't immediately recall where I read it. Maybe ESPN+
