Cincinnati Preparing to Get Everything Oklahoma State Has on Saturday

The Bearcats are one of the best, and surprising teams in the Big 12 this season. But that doesn't mean they're overlooking the Pokes.

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State is set for a Homecoming showdown with No. 24 Cincinnati this weekend. Once a match up thought to be a slam dunk win for the Pokes before the season has since turned into a game no one is giving the guys a chance to win.

The Bearcats are 5-1 overall, with three-straight Big 12 wins, including the upset win over then No. 14 ranked Iowa State at home.

The last time these two teams played was during the 2023 season, when the Pokes won 45-13 on Homecoming in Stillwater. Alan Bowman went 17-of-34 for 286 yards with two touchdowns and one pick. Ollie Gordon II had 25 carries for 271 yards with two touchdowns.

Cincinnati head coach Scott Satterfield met with the media this week to discuss the game.

“We’ve got a better team than we did, certainly, when we went there [in 2023,]” said Satterfield. “I think what we’ve been able to do is to build out our team the way we like — tough, gritty, hard-nosed players that play fast, that play physical. Obviously, I think you feel a lot better going to Stillwater this year than we did two years ago with what we have on that plane that we’re gonna be taking over there.

“We have a lot of belief in the locker room, too,” Satterfield continued. “I think that’s huge. They believe they’ll go out and play well and believe they’ll go out and get the win. Having belief is something that’s hard to get, but you get that through hard work, through adversity, all the things we’ve gone through the last two years.”

The Bearcats are currently averaging nearly 450 yards per game, 259.5 through the air and 190 on the ground. They’re also averaging 36 points per game. They’re holding opponents to 19 points and 384 yards per game.

The Cowboys are averaging just 16 points and 300 yards of total offense. But coach Satterfield isn’t taking the Pokes lightly.

“They’ve had eight different players throw a pass this year, which I don’t know if that’s a record, but it’s close probably,” Satterfield said. “The player that was a wideout but is now a quarterback, you turn the film on and watch him last week against Houston, I mean, he can throw the football.

“You have to be ready for everything. This is a team that, they haven’t had the best of years, but it is homecoming. They do have a lot of pride, all the alumni will be coming back, they want to put on a great show for their fans. They got a pride about themselves, as well. We’re gonna get their best shot. Here comes a ranked team in there for homecoming. We’re gonna get everything they got.”

One of the best defensive linemen in the country is on the Bearcats’ roster in Dontay Corleone. He had some good things to say about Jackson as well.

"I think people forget that he was the number one QB in the State of Illinois coming out of high school. This guy isn't a scrub. He is a good football player, and we are going to have to be ready."
