$17.3 million is more than $3 million. You have to include the cost of Gundy's buyout.
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State announced on Tuesday the hiring of Eric Morris from North Texas as the next head coach of Cowboy football. The news came a few days ahead of the desired deadline set by OSU athletic director, Chad Weiberg.
On Wednesday, Denton Record-Chronicle beat writer Brett Vito reported Oklahoma State will pay North Texas $2.3 million dollars to buyout the remainder of coach Morris’ contract.
In today’s world of college football, $2.3 million is an absolute bargain. A steal of a deal, especially considering Morris was the top choice for Weiberg and Oklahoma State.
The Cowboys currently owe Mike Gundy a $15 million buyout after firing him at the end of September. So, instead of having to pay north of $20 million in buyouts, Weiberg got his guy for less than $3 million.
