STILLWATER – National Signing Day for Oklahoma State has been a fast and furious affair Wednesday morning as they entered the day with just three commitments and had 14 signees just after 9 a.m.

Eric Morris and Co. worked magic building a class in a short amount of time, which included adding Chandler (AZ) Basha quarterback, Broderick Vehrs, who had been previously committed to North Texas. While most OSU fans have probably never heard of Vehrs, Morris is a certified QB whisper. While no one is predicting him to be the next Cam Ward, it’s safe to say Morris knows what he’s doing.

Here's how the class break downs as of 9:30 a.m.:

QB: 1

WR: 2

OL: 5

DL: 1

LB: 1

EDGE: 1

DB: 3

OL: O’Ryan Mosley, OL,6-3, 320, Houma (Terrebonne), La.

Well, was hoping to maybe pull a couple guys back, but a staff trying to do 2 jobs at once is limited in time.

Portal is way more important for this upcoming season and the next, so let's hit that hard.

This was never going to be a great class by any stretch, but the work put in by Morris and Murti has been very impressive. From just 3 commits last night to 14 signees today, goodness. While the HS kids matter, the real work and production will come from the transfer portal.

Of course, we'll be most interested in following the Cowboy career of the high school QB that they just signed. He is from Basha H.S. in Chandler, AZ. Bashas is a big supermarket chain in the Phoenix area, so I wonder if they named the school after that family?

Yes, I can't imagine they spent big on these guys, mostly flips from UNT/Texas State types. I do like the Baylor flip at OT.

More money to spend in the portal.

I'm assuming Overton and Beale III both went ahead and signed elsewhere?

Overton signed with Missouri and Beale signed with Arkansas.

I agree with this. You can't compare this class's rankings with past ones where coaches had a full recruiting cycle to recruit the kids. I think Morris did good, pulling in the kids he did at the 11th hour.

Portal should definitely reveal much more about where expectations should be for next year.

It's also hard to compare sports and coaches but Steve Lutz is a great example. No time to recruit HS or portal last year, took who he had to. He had the entire cycle this year to recruit HS and portal and brought in a top 10 HS class and this portal class is pretty damn good.

oh no, you did not just compare Lutz to Morris.... no, no, no, no, no

BB and FB have zero in common, especially with regard to recruiting.

Morris' efforts should be compared to other FB coaches, like Deion, or the Indiana coach, or some such. Maybe Golesh at Auburn even

Indiana had the 66th ranked HS recruiting class when Cignetti came on, their portal class bumped it up. Auburn is 36th and are usually easily top 15, usually top 10. If the portal closes and we don't have any guys come in then that can turn this around, then I'll be more concerned.

Hell, UNC brought in 41 transfers last year and many schools over 20. That's a whole class right there. If there's money to be spent, the portal is where I'd prioritize it for this cycle.

Oh I completely understand the differences between each sports and the financial situations. I was speaking of the timelines of it. Lutz comes in late and has to take who he can. Given more time, he got the guys he wanted. Morris comes in and has only eight days and has to take whoever he can just to have bodies. Next year's class will look much better given an entire year.
