STILLWATER – Salary and contract details for Oklahoma State’s new head coach, Eric Morris, has been announced. According to a report from The Oklahoman, Morris has signed a five-year contract, which will pay $3.8 million per year.

The contract, which is set for approval by the Oklahoma A&M Board of Regents on Friday morning, includes a $100,000 pay raise each February 1, with the deal set to expire January 31, 2031.

It was reported last week OSU is set to pay the remaining buyout of Morris’ North Texas contract. That’s set at $2,377,000.

Morris was hired by Oklahoma State eight days ago after spending the past three seasons as head coach of the Mean Green. Through this point in the 2025 season, Morris has led them to an 11-1 overall record and a berth in the American Conference title game against Tulane on Friday.

OSU is set to formally introduce Morris this coming Monday, December 8 at 1:30 p.m. CT at the OSU Alumni Center here on campus.

If he delivers results on the field, Chad better be ready to toss that paltry 100k raise each year out the window and pony up some competitive cash. Else, bye bye Morris

Compared to what Gundy was making that's a bargain, but take into account have to pay Morris' UNT buyout, plus Gundy's. Still though, most coaches don't have to take a discount because of that. Let's get it, Elf!!

Thank goodness we were never really in a deal for Golesh, OSU clearly could not afford a bidding war with Auburn. 6-year 44million, 7mil per.... WOW

On the surface, it looks like we got a steal.

By waiting on Auburn and not signing a midweek deal with Arkansas, Alex Golesh likely positioned himself to earn an additional $10 million in guaranteed salary, per the terms of his new contract with Auburn University that were released Monday.

The six-year deal comes with an average annual salary well more than $7 million and features a total guarantee of $44.25 million.

I came across this blurb in one article and the way it is written is a bit confusing.

Does this say, OSU renegotiated Gundy's contract and that negotiation saved OSU 10 Million because he was let go, or does it say that because of the negotiation, after Gundy was let go, OSU then negotiated a reduced buyout saving 10million off of the 15 million owed?

Oklahoma State's move to land Morris comes less than a year after the school reworked former coach Mike Gundy's deal, which reportedly carried a $15 million buyout at the time of his dismissal. Athletic department officials negotiated that figure down, ultimately saving the university more than $10 million, financial flexibility that has helped clear the path for an aggressive offer to Morris in this cycle.

RodeoPoke...... that SI paragraph is just clunky. The buyout didn't magically get negotiated down after they fired Gundy. The number was reworked last December during the whole debacle between Gundy and the board. That's when OSU tightened up the deal and knocked the exposure down from the ~$15M range, which is where the "saved more than $10M" line comes from. When they pulled the plug this fall, they were paying the already reduced figure, not haggling the original buyout down on the back end.

And on Morris: $3.8M with a $100k bump looks like a bargain next to Golesh's $7M at Auburn, sure, but let's not pretend we've seen the real "contract details" yet. Until we know incentives, staff pool, and what his buyout looks like if this goes sideways or he wins big, we're really just talking about the sticker price, not the full deal.

thanks... but I didn't really understand your comment either, it sounds like the first comment just reordered.

and buyouts are always haggled down.... we got Boynton down a bit if I remember correctly. The buyouts are always negotiated after termination.

I'm mostly just curious what we'll end up paying Gundy, it's still not clear, and may not be finalized.
